I've heard and seen a lot lately about the sinker redwood. not only that is looks absolutely fantastic, but I've read that it is loud as well. so, how does it compare sonically to other popular top woods that has a lot of head room such as sitka, adirondack, engleman and the like?

Nims, I think Redwood is more like Cedar than Spruce of any kind. Think of it like Cedar on steroids. Warmer like Cedar but with a little more headroom and a little faster attack. The Sinker version of Redwood is very very close to that as well. In fact, I don't think you could sonically differentiate between Sinker and regular blindfolded. The Sinker has the visual appeal for most although I really like regular Redwood as well.

I've got a sinker over cocobolo grand concert, and I love it. After first receiving it and playing for about an hour, I felt that it delivers the best of two other tone woods -- the warmth of cedar with the clarity and headroom of spruce -- without the negatives of either. And I agree with cigarfan that you'd be hard pressed to hear any difference between sinker and regular redwood.

I love my sinker-topped GA BTO. This guitar, which is only a year and a half old, compares quite favorably with my older, more opened-up guitars in both volume and tone, so I'm really happy with it. As compared with cedar, its voice is a bit "huskier" and deeper. Compared with spruce, its voice is - well- a bit "huskier" and deeper! Compared with redwood tops I've played, same answer in my experience. In any case, volume is no issue at all. It presents a nice alternative to both spruce and cedar!

I just bought a guitar a few days ago (Carmel Guitar Co, Sinker/Bloodwood) with a sinker redwood top. I had a 98 K20C that had a nice woody tone but always lacked a certain depth and volume. IMHO, Redwood has a similar tone but is much more responsive.
