Here is Bernie
« on: August 21, 2014, 09:12:15 PM »
Hello you all

I am Bernie, a newcomer to the UTGF...A musician, a music lover too, interested in various styles - blues, rock, folk, jazz, pop, even classical guitar & flamenco, and quite a few other things...I've had a Taylor guitar since August 2009 and I am perfectly happy with her...
I've left other forums I used to visit more regularly, coz some bad folks there were always criticising Taylor guitars, taking the piss and so on...For they like other makes it seems...
I didn't know about this forum till a few days ago and I'm glad I found it...I do not like only one guitar make and I hope it's not a problem here...We'll meet around various topics soon I guess.
Till then, best regards...

Bernie ;)

Hi Bernie. Welcome to the UTGF. I think you'll enjoy this site. We have some great members here. The laid-back atmosphere keeps the malcontents busy elsewhere. Make yourself at home and enjoy. :)

Thanks very much Suzie, Shayne & Strumming Fool for these kind answers...
From the numerous instruments listed, I can see they are genuine guitar lovers here. We will probably find things to share soon... :). I'll have a look at what you write & say...

Hi Suzie

I didn't have much time the other day, but now it's quieter, I have wondered what a "Mountain Dulcimer" is...
I know what a dulcimer is... , at least I know the sound & I've seen a few, but I've never heard of mountain dulcimers...
So if the 12 strings has not arrived yet, you'd have to tell me...

Or otherwise, enjoy...
Bernie. :)

Hi Bernie and welcome! :) You have quite a variety of interests for guitar music! 8) Personally I love to listen to fingerstyle and classical for guitar music, but for general music I especially like Christian and classical music (Debussy, Bach, Beethoven, etc.). But hey...I love hearing acoustic guitar even with other genres. ;)

Please pull up a chair and make yourself at home. :D

Hello Cindy

Thanks for your answer. Can't see any chairs around.  How shall I do? ???
Yes I do have an interest for a lot of different musics. I tend to start the day playing classical - south american - & flamenco music to get me going...
But I am the ordinary idiot the rest of the day, playing some nasty rock music...  ;) >:(  ...
I like fingerstyle folky guitar too, don't worry... ;) Read you soon...

Hello Dan,

With so many Penndan guitars you must be either making them, or having had your name after your favourite  brand - I once thought of calling my band Martin Taylor & the Starcasters until I found out there already was a Martin Taylor playing guitar...

Building his own instruments must be a great thing to do, very fulfilling... :o

Thanks for your message, and hope to get to know more about it...

Bernie... ;)

Mountain dulcimer, Appalachian dulcimer, Lap dulcimer....all the same. It is laid on your lap and strummed or picked. The fretboard runs along the entire body of the instrument. Usually 4 strings, but can have 3, 4, or even 6. A very pretty diatonic instrument, but some can be made to be chromatic. It's all in how and what you choose to play.  A very pretty instrument and really fun. The people who play tend to be some of the friendliest people to hang out with. If you Google mountain dulcimer, you'll see all sorts of good examples.

Thanks Susie and sorry that I miswrote your name...Thought it might have been a peculiar type of dulcimers... Interesting pics & a bit of music there for those who would be interested...

So it seems to be an original instrument invented in those Mountains according to what I've read...Well done!
