Hi fellow Taylor guitar fans,
I just sent the below email to Taylor (in response to an earlier inquiry & reply), and thought I'd share it here as well, thinking perhaps forum members can add to the discussion.

Do you have a spec sheet, catalog entry, or other advertising/NAMM show details regarding the 1998 810-LTD?
Also, what would be the tonal and neck profile similarities/differences comparing this 1998 810-LTD, an '89 810, and '87 810, and a '94 810?
Lastly, where can I get a listing of all the Limited Edition Taylor guitars (with specs and descriptions) over the years?
If any of this is available online, please send me the link to old catalogs or whatever.

A '98 model 810 may be one of the last pre-NT necks, as NT became standard equipment right after then (but I don't recall exactly when). They were still bolt-on -- as with all Taylor necks -- but with the fingerboard extension glued down to the top. The necks were a bit slimmer in those days and I recall most of them being 1-11/16" nut width. Hopefully customer service can assemble this data for you. If so, please post it here for posterity.
As for the other stuff, you might have to dig through the W&S archives and come up with that. I'm not aware of any comprehensive list. Before my move south from Alaska, I had an extensive archive of the old newsprint Wood & Steel issues, probably dating back before 1996, but something had to go during the move in 2007.
Edit: you might get more response if this were moved to the general section.

The BEST and most knowledgeable response will come from Taylor. If that email was only just sent then you need to give them a little time to respond. Asking on a forum is ok but you may get some incorrect info. If it comes from Taylor then you know that info is factual. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Hey Rick,
Unfortunately we don't have that documentation available. Older models are hard to find specs for. Usually a specific one is more likely to be found with the serial number. We also don't have that information readily available in any catalogs.

Hey Rick,
Thanks for reaching out. It reflected our new Dreadnought shape (introduced at the Winter'97 NAMM show) and came standard with an abalone top, but otherwise was the same as a standard 810 (Sitka spruce top, E.Indian rosewood back/sides, etc.) I hope this has been helpful. Have a great day!

Hi,
What are the specs for a 1997 or 1998 Taylor 810 LTD ? And in particular, serial number 970411128.
What makes them different from standard 810's from those same years?

FYI - I have asked a moderator to move this thread to the appropriate UTGF section.

NT necks started in 2000. This one will still have the older “electric feeling” slim neck that I like a lot. small hands here…
As mentioned above, probably 1 11/16” nut on a dread, as most folks want to flatpick dreads and prefer the slimmer nut.
It will have the UV poly finish which they started in 95.
Also, pre NT, almost every part of the guitar is just a bit lighter. Less mass can often result in more tone, imho
By 95 Taylor had worked out the CNC bugs, and until post 2000, was still a small enough company to give each axe a bit more handwork.
