Not exactly the same change, but I put on medium-light Elixir nano PBs on a GC body and I love it.  Had it like this for over a decade: sounds great, plays great, no desire to change.  Give it a whirl!

Yup, that is it SDTaylorman.  In that photo the sponge serves mostly to hold the water beads in place.  When wet they swell to about 3/8" (10 mm) diameter, but dry they are the size of BB's (about 2 mm).  Still no idea why my JPG won't post -- it has in the past -- but that issue has happened here before.

I find that the water beads hold much more water than simple sponges.  Sponges may need to be re-wet every week during dry conditions, but water beads are usually good for a month or more -- for me.  Back on topic, it sounds like the OP may be fighting excess humidity rather than dry conditions, hence the mention of silica gel packs and a hygrometer.  His focus should probably be more on mitigating hot temperatures during the day when he is away from the camper van.  Ideally his guitar should be in a styrofoam cooler during hot weather in an enclosed vehicle.

Remember that the RH from the weather report only applies to outdoor conditions, meaning open windows or sitting outdoors.  And the outdoor RH will change hourly with temperature.  Indoors, whether heating or cooling, you can have a very different number -- probably lower in most cases.  Having a hygrometer (not a hydrometer, which measures something else entirely) would give you peace of mind.

Another attempt at posting my soap dish photo.... (didn't work).

Maybe something (generically) like this? https://i.pinimg.com/originals/39/72/0e/39720e2f8ac4e8ea1162c8703a4dab90.jpg

Personally I just use sponges with distilled water instead of the beads as shown here: https://www.harmonycentral.com/articles/guitar-accessories/make-your-own-diy-guitar-case-humidifiers-r448/
