Got to listen to my new-ish 614ce through the PA…WOW
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:54:43 AM »
My sound person was not able to make it to our Christmas service at church, so I set up everything and ran the sound check.  My lead player was setting his electrics and his Martin, and then I had him play my 614ce while I was at the board.  He went from his Martin dread to my Taylor, and I was blown away how crisp and mellow my 614ce sounded.  It was a totally different perspective for me from where I was sitting, and it sounded amazingly better than what I hear on stage.  I just sat at the board with a big stupid grin on my face.

I love this guitar, but it doesn’t have the greatest tone when played purely acoustic, especially when compared to my well played 710.  I bought this guitar to be played plugged in, and I made the right choice.  Maple plugged in…holy cow!

I can understand the grin on your face when hearing the 'out-front' sound  ;D  I've heard the 614 plugged in and they definitely do sound so crisp and pure.  When playing on stage in the past and plugged in, I always tried to sneak a little towards the PA speaker/mains just so I could get a taste of what others were hearing.  I am glad you got to hear 'your' guitar :)

Glad you lke it!  A beautiful guitar, to say the least.  But I doubted not that it would sound great!  It's a lovely thing to behold the beauty of a Taylor sounding loud n pround in the house ...congrats!

holy cow is a good thing ... very nice :)

i kind of had to do that one time also for a practice, as i was playing acoustic (no sound person) -
i would run sound when i wasn't playing, as it is kind of hard to do both ;) & since i didn't use a DI,
i plugged a TRS 1/4"/XLR cable into the channel i was using, then played from behind the board ...
did a little tweaking, then unplugged, went back to the platform, plugged back in & away we went :D

give your 614ce a few more years & see what develops -
i think you may be pleasantly surprised (acoustically) :)
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

Maple has a love it or hate it following. I for one love it plugged in or not.
There something to be said for the clear and pure sound of it.
As michaelw said, give it time and you'll be amazed at how good it sounds.

I really love maple plugged in and have had good experiences with both the ES system and other systems.  Acoustically, those that I've had sound awesome too.

Boon is selling a GC6e that sounds awesome IMHO of course.
