house of guitars 50th anniversary (1 of 6) taylor custom GA

sinker redwood top
EIR back and sides
Sitka CV bracing
ES2
800 series single ring abalone rosette
cutaway
dark stain mahogany neck
ebony fretboard with small abalone dots
gloss ebony headstock with abalone taylor logo
faux tortoise binding
gold taylor tuning machines

curt at house of guitars really hooked me up on this...amazing guy.

interestingly enough, has Tusq nut and saddle.

my cedar 914ce with bone sounds significantly deep, this has significantly more headroom

I'm not home right now but need to take more pictures and play it more!!!

 Congrats.
At a Road Show I attended last year, a Sinker dreadnaught stole the show from the introduction  of the new 600 series. Pretty hard thing to do, due go the popularity is Andy's Re-Tayloring work in El Cajon

Very cool!  Congratulations, "zeebow!"  Everyone should have a guitar with a 'Sinker' Redwood top in their Taylor collection!  It seems to be one of their signature soundboard woods, and is in limited supply (although I'm sure other manufacturers use 'Sinker' Redwood as well).

I'll bet!  Can't recall ever having encountered a Dreadnought with a 'Sinker' Redwood top on it; I've seen lots of Grand Concerts and a few Grand Auditoriums with 'Sinker' tops, though.  A 'Sinker' Dreadnought would be interesting!

Unfortunately, I'd have to disagree.  I owned a Sinker Redwood R Taylor briefly earlier on this year.  To me the Cedar comparisons that people generally make with Redwood did not apply to my particular guitar - it sounded more like a standard Sitka Spruce top.  I am not generally a fan of Sitka Spruce, for what it's worth.

Hmm.  Interesting.  I tend to fall on the other tend of the spectrum (like Sitka, not a huge fan of Cedar), so maybe that's why I find 'Sinker' more appealing...?  Plus the aesthetics of 'Sinker' tend to be unique among the top woods.

I like the sound of sinker, because it seems to grab elements of other woods that results in a pleasing amalgam. When I play my sinker/ovangkol GA (with Adi CV bracing), I hear spuce, cedar and a little hardwood all rolled into one. It has the most "Martinesque" sound of all my Taylors. While possessing a husky, whiskey voice, it can also produce a 12 string zing during certain passages.

I've heard sinker paired with several back/sides woods, but I think it really shines with rosewood and ovangkol. Just my $.02.
