Taylor 12 string action
« on: April 21, 2020, 03:09:28 PM »
Changed the strings from the D'Addario .010-.047 to Elixir 10-47 bronze nanoweb , to me, the action seems higher.
Don't know if it my imagination or not...took the old strings off, didn't touch the bridge, cleaned the fretboard , a light lemon oil wiped clean and replaced strings. Am I missing something or just my imagination.

Hi Duff,

My guess is you're perception is off :)

While it is possible that there is a small difference in tension between the two string sets you mention, that difference in pounds is likely so minute (same gauge sets, you said, right) that I doubt it would change your neck relief at all, especially in a Taylor whose 12-string guits have genuinely rock-solid necks.  That said, try a minute turn of the truss rod, say 1/8 of a turn.  But before you adjust the TR, measure your relief first so you're not relying on memory or visual guesstimating :)

Elixir has Guitar String Tension Charts on their website:

Don't know about D'Addario.

Totally agree with Edward.

Taylor specs at 12 fret High E are .045 - .055
Low E 12th fret are .075 - .085

Those work for me.  Seasonal adjustment of the truss road (as Edward said 'minutely).

Duff,

Forgot to ask. What model guitar are you playing ? Shouldn't make much if any difference, but you never know.

Care to share what you have in mind ?

Or will you know it when you 'see' it ?

It showed up in great shape and it is a wonderful sounding instrument. Loud!! Clear, balanced but with great Low end. A small truss rod adjustment was needed and I will sand down the nut wit the next string change. It plays well but will be much better after the nut work. I am quite happy with this guitar ! The
