I've always been happy with one or two guitars. I think the most I've owned at one time is three, but that's pretty rare. Right now I just have two, my 110e and a gem - my K Yairi classical. The 110e is a strong, practical gigger so I'm not thinking of adding another instrument - yet -
I'm curious, how many people here are happy with one or two guitars, or how many like to run a herd? Both are valid. :)
-
I have a mini herd. Over the many, many years I’ve just hung on to certain ones. But my family of guitars always shrinks because I like to trade up and I’ll usually trade 2 guitars for one I want more. But I do like to have at least a few for different tunings, especially raised B since it’s stringed different. I don’t think there is a right or wrong amount to have. The important thing is that you love the ones you do have.

This I completely agree with - no right or wrong

Having bought and sold guitars for over 20 years, I finally found my soul mate guitar - the Taylor GA, in the late nineties. As you can see from the signature below, I like the differences in all the flavors (bracing, woods, etc.). But I still feel that seven would be an ideal number - one for each day of the week!
-
You do mean two of each tonewood, right?

I hate to be the one to break the news, but some how you ended up with 8 guitars. ;)
Will one have to go?

I bet he saves one and only plays it once every four years on February 29. 8)

Been at this for 2+ months. Will have 4 by next week.
2 Taylors
1 RainSong
1 Peavey

Alright, alright, you guys! I said that seven is the ideal number - I'm just not there yet!! I'm actually contemplating selling two and acquiring another, so then I'll be spot on!

Wellllll not exactly - I should have said "wood combos" of which there's currently only one each....

Oh yeah? Which 2 are you thinking of selling?

I'll be sure to let you know if and when I pull the trigger!

Hey SF,
If you like 'em all, don't pressure yourself to sell any, even if you pull the trigger on a new one. It's all about the journey. While 7 may be ideal, just extend the rotation. Baseball uses a 5 man starting rotation now and no one finishes games. I remember when there was a 4 man rotation and they bopped 'till they dropped. Or they brought in Dick 'the Monster' Radatz in the 6th or 7th inning to finish the game. So try some relief appearances; you might surprise yourself. I speak from experience; on some days a given guitar just isn't doing it. And a 12 string makes for a great reliever. And there are some days I just don't get a chance to play. Boo, hiss.
I will also admit to playing favourites. My 412 gets the lion's share of playtime, followed by my 355 and 818. No real planned rotation. I just mentioned the rotation thing because you mentioned the "one for each day of the week" thing; just having some fun with it. Which one's your bestie?
Enjoy,
Don

I think Strumming Fool has been listening to the Beatles song "Eight Days a Week"? 8)

I took most of mine out for a winter scrub up back in January and took this.
Guess I have a few.
-
In the past I've had many, and it made me uncomfortable.
I have 2 main gigging guitars: a steel string (Rainsong) and my Nylon (Taylor 114ce-N).
In a remote office I keep a cheap classical. Then there is my oldest guitar, which is
kept for sentimental purposes and because it plays/sounds great (Augustino dread, from 1981).
That one never leaves the house.
So that's 4. I also have a cheap electric, but that's just a diversion.

It can be a bit fluid - right now it's my sinker redwood/ovangkol GA that gets more play then others. But my 90s Taylors still get a lot of play time, and the K24, the Engelmann/maple and the adi/walnut all really shine as well....

It was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid - but "eight guitars a week" is feeling a bit overwhelming!

*SIGH* Judging from my signature, I guess I'm one of the guitar herders -- or probably more aptly, a guitar hoarder... And those listed in my signature are just the Taylors... I really should try to cull it down to a more manageable herd, but can't seem to find the heart to part...
I think there's a song somewhere in my story... Perhaps a country song...? ;)

With a herd the size yours maybe you should move to Texas Ha! Then it won't seem so big.

Better yet, you could become an authorized Taylor dealer. ;)
Tim, you have an incredible collection. If that is what makes you happy in life, go for it! Life is all about enjoying what you do.

Already live there... At least theoretically... Plus you know the old adage about nature abhorring a vacuum; more space just means more space to fill... ;)

The thought has crossed my mind. But then again, I'd have too much trouble letting go when something really cool came across my path, so I don't think that's the solution either... :-\

I like this answer best...! ;)

Maybe just re-work some new lyrics to "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail". I'm sure Buck wouldn't mind.
And if you part with any, there's always "All My Ex's Live in Texas". That'll set you 'Straight'.
:o

Good suggestions, Don! It wouldn't be the first parody I've written...! Can't seem to compose music worth a lick, but I can make all the right words fit...! ;)
-
How about a new title too,
"I've got a Tiger by the Tale"
since country songs often tell stories.
For example, I here there is more than a little truth to "Wolverton Mountain".

Good stuff you guys.
Tim: well maybe a new home in Alaska. That will make them fit better, then, of course, you could fit in a few more. I have a cousin in Fairbanks he sez that there is plenty of room up there. Then again there are more airport delays and cancellations than in Texas, makes it tough in the winter to move around.

My goodness you all are a riot! What kind of a forum have I joined here? :D :D

A fun, friendly place full of people who are passionate about Taylor's. Our claim to fame is helping people spend money.

After my last purchase I had to ask Josh for an increase in the size of signature allowed. It looks like a few of you have taken advantage of that 😀

Oh, Good Lord, no! Alaska has 2.5 times more space than Texas! My nearly-unmanagement 'herd' will be 2.5 times larger...! :o

I just spent the last two months getting my fill of snow and ice in Pennsylvania; even wound up with five stitches under my chin when I crash-landed there after slipping on a hillside while shoveling a snowy walkway... I think I'll pass on winter in Alaska...

Indeed! I, for one, can't seem to avoid the urge to fill all available space... ;)

VERY simple question for me.......The EXACT number of guitars I like to have at any given time is...MORE!!!!!!!!!!!
