322 reunited
« on: December 24, 2014, 12:39:50 PM »
Traded my 322 earlier this summer to a local store. I used it to acquire a more expensive guitar. It has taken a lot of trail and error, not to mention the expense, this year of searching for the right instrument. I've had Taylor, Gibson, Collings, Rainsong and so on. Tried a Martin 000-18 last weekend, and INSTANTLY knew there was no questioning this one. Watched the dealer unbox it and then handed it to me. Strummed a E major in the first position and it was done. I went back to the store I traded the 322 a few days later just to say hello. Picked up my guitar and strummed a open G and knew I was nuts for letting it go. These two guitars really compliment each other very well.

totally get that...for a while I had an all hog 000-15sm Martin and my 514ce hog (cedar top though), so my set up was a little reversed.  I think the 000-18 is one of the best bang for your buck spruce top guitars ever...it just has crystal clear tone...enjoy both!!!

I can definitely relate. Coming out right in the end usually justifies the means...

I get it.  Just this week I was reunited with my 2004 nylon NS34ce.  I had traded it to a friend last year since he needed a wider neck and nylon strings to accommodate arthritis pain in his hands.  He since found something else and we undid the trade.

I enjoy having it back, but it was traded originally because it never got much play time at my house.  Thus it will be up for sale after the New Year, along with the 410, the 12-string, the GS Mini and the baritone-6 (from my signature line).
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Having this guitar back is truly a blessing. I prefer Martin FX 12.5/55.5 gauge strings, and they sound fantastic on this guitar. I never use a pick and this particular combination of wood, and body size really fit my playing style perfectly. I dropped in a spare Taylor bone wave saddle I had, and the intonation is spot on. Pretty much was spot on before, but I had the saddle in a draw so why not. I removed the pick guard obviously, and like the look better without one. I let it go once for some crazy reason, but I won't make that mistake twice.

I am soooo with you on the Martin FX strings for these Tayor hogs...I put them on my 514ce and they are just dazzling...plenty of sparkle but also this incredible grit.  I love them.

It is satisfying to know that it is a keeper.  I have been in your position before.  I found one like a model I let go and am pleased to have it in my line up.  Congratulations.
