attack of conscience
« on: April 11, 2014, 05:28:11 PM »
so.... when i'm overseas, i tend to buy a lot of things online out of boredom.  from an online retailer, i ordered a box(case of 10) of Elixir PB light strings for my 324.  apparently, i've recieved 3 cases so far from the retailer. i was only billed for the original case. i've sent 4 e-mails so far about the problem and got no response yet. at this rate when i get back home hopefully 4/22, i'll have 8 or 9 cases waiting for me. once home i can call and get it stopped...maybe.
now the conundrum... i've attempted to get their attention,
do i keep them? if i do, i'll likely donate them to a local community center that i donated a bunch of guitars to so getting rid of them wont be a problem. how far would you go to return them?

I'd make several attempts (in various ways) to contact them. I'd also document all my attempts, just in case they start billing/charging you for them. I'm a retired auditor (CPA) and documentation can be very important, if you ever have to defend your actions. If they still don't respond (and don't charge you), I'd probably hang onto them for a period of time before donating them, just in case it takes them some time to wake up to the situation. Then, after all that, I'd do like you are planning....donate them.

I'd make a good-faith effort to contact them through email and by phone.  If I can't reach them, I'd just send the strings back in one large box.  No attack of conscience necessary.  They made an honest mistake, and there's no reason to punish them for being overly generous to you.  I wouldn't donate the strings because that only hurts the store that made the mistake.

6 e-mails and 2 phone calls later... i was(as was the blonde) that only 1 box was sent and the other boxes were never shipped. they can't make mistakes like that...i was actually given attitude implying that i made it up ! i'm trying to return 4 boxes of un-ordered strings and the company tells me that they never sent them and that i cant return what they didnt send. at first they thought that i wanted my money back on the 4 boxes..it took a few minutes to get them to believe that the boxes werent billed to me and i wasnt trying to get money back !
i wonder how many boxes of EXP17's i'll get ?? ;D

I' d love to know who the vendor is. I'll order a 2014 814, pay for one, get 3, and parlay my nestegg into a K22. Sort of like the old Groucho Marx joke of the 7 cent nickel he proposed: buy something for 2 cents, pay with his 7 cent nickel, and get his nickel back in change ("Animal Crackers" 1929).

My conscience would be fine with keeping the strings at this point. If they're not willing to admit a mistake, so be it. Send them back, but I wouldn't pay the shipping. Give 'em away, sell 'em (donate the funds to whatever), and/or make weird lawn ornaments out of 'em. Next time I order strings, let me know who these folks are. I just bought 6 sets.  :)
