As usual, only open to US and Canadian residents. Taylor seem quite happy for people outside North America to buy their guitars, but never deem them worthy of any reward for their custom  :(

You're jumping to a conclusion.  There are legal reasons within many of the individual countries why they don't participate in the sweepstakes.

Dennis, I'll admit that there are probably some legal obstacles, in some countries, but these are not necessarily insurmountable.

For instance, Taylor could run a similar promotion from its European HQ in Amsterdam, across the whole of the European Union, but I am not aware of it ever having done so.

I am a big fan of Taylor, both of their products and their company ethos, but I cannot help but feel a bit left out at times.

Sax,

I don't presume to know anything about the legalities of running a sweepstakes across the European Union, but I have to believe that if it were practical to do so, Taylor would likely do it, since the company very much values the sales and enthusiasm it receives from its customers across the pond.

On the other hand, if I were in your shoes, I would likely feel left out, too.

Just out of curiosity, and to understand how surmountable the legal obstacles may be, are you aware of any other American company sponsoring a sweepstakes across the entirety of the Euro Union?

Dennis, to be honest I do not enter many competitions and certainly cannot categorically state to be aware of any EU wide competition, this does not however prove there have not been any. Many large companies split their marketing within the EU across different countries; for instance Nikon UK, markets Nikon Equipment in just the UK and Ireland, the rest of the EU is covered by other Nikon HQs; PepsiCo similarly has different marketing strategies, from its different EU departments. Also, there are indeed some regulations that would have to be complied with, for instance I believe, within the EU, that there has to be a skill question involved, to prevent the promotion being labelled a 'lottery'. Most EU countries also insist that promotions (including terms and conditions) must be advertised in the local language. Therefore, with my very inadequate linguistic skills, it would be hard for me to determine whether any similar looking marketing campaign across 2 or more countries, is indeed the same competition.

As for whether Taylor would do it as long as it were practical, I do not know. I do know that they do not market the full range of Taylorware clothing within Europe; even the people I have spoken to in Amsterdam do not know why some items are not sent to them. However, I always attend the Roadshows held in my area and will ask at the next one regarding competitions and see what the answer is.

Speaking of "official rules" and Canadians anyone catch this in the rules?

"Canadian residents may need to correctly answer a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question, without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical, electronic or otherwise, prior to being declared a winner."

What on earth is this, a joke?

No worries for me (whew!), I'm from the heart of it all.
