Baden Guitars

Does anyone know much about TJ Baden? A store recently got some of his guitars in, apparently he used to be VP of Taylor too. Like the fact that they don't have rosettes, but am not a fan of the cutaway.

Built in Viet Nam from American design, they sound and play well but weren't successful in the US.  TJ was VP of Sales for a while, but left around 2003.

What Gutch said.

I think TJ could've had a hit with his guitars had he had them built here in the States. The guitars were nice enough, I suppose, but I think they were generally considered grossly overpriced given their country of origin. I don't disagree with that.

I think he expected his name, and his resume', to carry the Baden line of guitars, and they didn't. TJ was with Taylor for a long, long time, and was instrumental in their success. But I think he may have lost sight of the product factor. At Taylor, he was heading up a sales department that was selling, arguably, the finest guitars available. Baden guitars were not that and, consequently, he didn't realize the same success selling Badens that he did selling Taylors.

I had a dealer in Canada who'd had one in his shop for over four years. I think he finally used it as a giveaway in a contest and wrote it off. It just wasn't selling...

i thought that TJ had some models contracted with pantheon/bourgeois

the audio has some extraneous noise on these clips, but ...

Well, the Vietnamese models were retailing up to three grand. "Limited Edition" US made ones? Double that, I would imagine...
