Favorite album segue.
« on: March 18, 2020, 01:12:27 PM »
Just heard probably my favorite album seque: Led Zep 's "Heartbreak" into "Livin' Lovin' Maid".  Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" into "With A Little Help From My Friends" and the Doors' "Peace Frog" into "Blue Sunday" on the Morrison Hotel album also come to mind.  Any thoughts or additions?

The first two are in my opinion, two of the best.

This is pretty simple for me.

The segue from Pink Floyd's  "Have A Cigar" into "Wish You Were Here", on the album "Wish You Were Here", is the best segue ever recorded...

Probably "Your Time Is Gonna Come/Black Mountain Side" off 'Led Zeppelin', if only because I can't get the complete studio recording of "Black Mountain Side" any other way.

This could be a moot thread if you have a functioning and recordable turntable, can do a 'slip cue', and a recording device (tape or CD) or mixer. Most satisfying and most fun if you have 2 turntables and do the slip cue live.

Then you can make your own interactive segues.

I suppose any recording where one song follows another would qualify as a segue, on any extant album. And could include any recordings you make for your own use.

Any medley would automatically count as a segue too. I do a few medleys, mostly full song, where the last note of the initial song is also the first note of the following song. For example, my last ritardando note of "Spanish Harlem" (as instrumental or with vocal) doubles as the first note of "Maria Elena" done as an instrumental. Easiest to do when the key is the same. I also do the intro, verse, and bridge from "Roundabout" as an intro to "Pipeline", all instrumentally on 12 string. Or "Ghost Riders in the Sky" where instrumental + vocal elides into slapped chord rhythm to start "Apache", from the Jorgen Ingmann instrumental version. You get the idea.

I think the assumption is that we're discussing segues which already exist on an album...

I think we all know what the urban definition of 'assume' is.

A thread is nothing more than a meld of a random textual conversation and a snowball rolling down a hill covered with trees like a pachinko game. I like to have fun. And I like thinking 'outside the box', whatever that truly means.

Personally I like a pretty loose and all-encompassing definition of 'segue', as I outlined in my examples.

Some of my favorites come from the Irish pubs, such as:
The Morning Dew / Cooley's reel / The Wise Maid
For the more Bluegrass seque:  Whiskey Before Breakfast / St. Anne's reel / Salt creek [/font]

Well, maybe I'm crazy, but when I read the thread title, which is "FAVORITE ALBUM SEGUES", I quickly reached the conclusion that we were discussing segues which were on, you know... albums...

You missed, or misread, the part where I mentioned making your own albums.

You missed the part about "any extant albums", whether made ad hoc from commercial sources or made for private use. Matter of fact, in the meantime, I think you missed that someone may have offered "live" pub experiences as an example.

Outside the box is cool.
