Title: Clockwise or counterclockwise?
Post by: TrampsLikeUs on August 10, 2022, 09:28:15 AM
I love my coffee the first thing in the morning.  I stir my coffee ☕️ in a clockwise motion. I’ve noticed I can’t stir as fast in the counterclockwise motion.  Should I worry about this?  When I rinse my empty cup,  same thing.  Hmmm.

You wouldn't do well in NASCAR, then.  ;)

Wow, what a conundrum.  Have you sought professional consultation?    :) :D ;D

I thought maybe this is a handed-ness thing.

But I stir counter-clockwise with both my left and right hands. Just checked it this morning, 'cause it's not something I consciously do. Maybe it's because I drink tea and not coffee.
;-{ >

Right (write) hand dominant, but also quite a bit ambi-dextrous.

I play guitar right-handed, but my left hand is the conductor of that train. My right hand fingerpicks along.

Do you live in the Southern Hemisphere?  Then the Coriolis force from the Earth's rotation would help with counter clockwise stirring.  The Northern Hemisphere encourages clockwise stirring / swirling.  My source of caffeine is Diet Mountain Dew, and I don't stir it.  Never been a fan of coffee, although I love the smell of it brewing.  Tea is OK when eating Chinese food, but otherwise I can pass.

Next conundrum:  when you drum your fingers, do you go p-r-m-i, or i-m-r-p?

Hmmm, indeed. I'm thinking the blame goes to cursive writing. When we start out most letters, it requires a clockwise motion (up and to the right) for right hander's to form the lower case letters. So that neuromuscular training imprints a preference for clockwise coffee stirring. . .

I swear I was sober when I though of this . . . :o

Actually eastern Massachusetts (gesundheit), less than an hours casual drive to southern NH. Is there something about NH I should know or avoid? Oh, hemisphere, not hampshire. Time to put on my reading glasses.

So, Is there something about southern NH I should know or avoid?

I guess I'm just a backward stirrer, but I am consistent since I stir in the same counter-clockwise direction with either hand. If I stir on the kitchen table instead of the counter, what should I call it? Heads?

Kind of like how I hit a baseball. Right handed, I'm a pull hitter. Left handed, I'm an opposite field hitter. Must be because I went to college in Boston. I'll call it the Fenway Park effect.

The former. I start with my little finger with either hand. I use both hands on the chorus for the William Tell Overture. You know, the Lone Phalanger.

I'm tempted to ask if you play golf, in which case your bad swings are usually hooks, me being a clockwise stirrer my bad swings are usually a slice into the right weeds  :o :o :o

'jpmist',

Are you when you go away?

No golf for me. Not a city-boy sport.

But I can shoot pool with either hand (never could use a 'bridge', so I just shot lefty).

Can play tennis with either hand too, including swithcing hands in mid-run to extend my reach. But can't throw a ball or serve lefty with any good effect.

I write cursive with my right hand, can't write cursive lefty. but I can print lefty pretty well. Not just 'lefty' but also left handed. And more.

I'm left handed
Play guitar right handed
Write and eat left handed
Shoot (handguns and long arms) right handed
Welding (previous career) ambidextrous
Fishing rod & reel, right handed
Cut with scissors, right handed exclusively.  (Not enough scissors for lefties in school when I was growing up).
Stir my coffee?  I drink black coffee, stirring not required.

Scott

@TrampsLikeUs,

Were you born to run?or did you have to crawl first? clockwise?

So when you tried switching to the other side of the table, did you go clockwise or counter-clockwise around the table?

Does a time-traveller move counter-clockwise?

Or WHAT ? ? ?

When I was born I did 3 things, eat, sleep and, .. well, you know.  Absolutely no direction.
Time travelers go clockwise to the future,  counterclockwise to the past.  I’m pretty sure about this one.

Here’s another Q.  Why do we hang jeans by the hem and dress pants by the crease?

Another conundrum,  I put my pants on one leg at a time. Just like everyone.  But I put on a sock and a shoe then the other sock and shoe.  When is the right time to tie the shoe’s?

I have to go,  the soup line is starting…

I NEED HELP !!!

TrampsLikeUs,

Why do you hang jeans?

I put my jeans on one leg at a time if I'm standing. 2 legs, alle zusammen, while standing up in the middle of it.

Is the sock and shoe one leg completed at a time some kind of ritual behavior?

Tie your shoes/sneaks once in a loose double knot; then treat them like loafers. Or Birkenstocks. Removes all doubt.

Just had my soup. Campbell's chicken noodle with added french-cut green beans and a sprinkle of pepper.

Actually mis-typed added with addled there. Maybe an omen? Or my condition?

I was led to believe that 'HELP' is for the weak. Expecially in a 'capitalized' condition.

Be well and play well,

Don
