Good evening all,
I just wanted to reach out and ask for some prayers . I had a bit of an accident this weekend. I was working in my barn and lost control of a piece of equipment and injured my left thumb . I lost quite a bit of skin and may need a skin graft. It happens to be right where your thumb would put pressure on the back of the neck especially for bar chords and a D chord with F# in the base. I find out about the skin graft tomorrow and just hope and pray that this won’t be a permanent thing. I am right handed, but I am wishing it would have been my right thumb. Just asking for some prayers. I suppose the whole incident could have been much worse, so I should be thankful.

I am so sorry to hear this Cowboy. I will send some prayers your way. I understand how these accidents can happen quickly (I broke my thumb on my right hand last year....my own fault). I hope you get good news, get it fixed up, and are back 100%. Hang in there, and keep us posted as you see fit.

Awful thing to have happen. Best wishes for a full recovery.
Please keep us posted.

Thoughts and prayers here too, Cowboy. Hand injuries are never good, and they are especially traumatic for a guitar player. I am always uber-careful when using power tools like my table saw or drill press.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers . My quick update is that my orthopedic surgeon does not think that a skin graft is necessary and that it should heal just fine on its own, given time. I think that is good news. I’ll take it day by day and hope I can get back to where I was in due time .

That sounds encouraging. Take care and heal fast! In the meantime, something I tell myself in these situations........remember, it could have been much worse. ;)

Good to hear. This non-playing time is an opportunity to study other musical things like theory. Or start memorizing lyrics for a few new songs for when you return. I've a few forced time outs through the years. Try to make some lemonade out of these lemons.

Oh my word! I'm so sorry to hear about this. Praying for you now!

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers
The healing continues
Susie, yes it could have been a lot worse

jjrpot, thanks for the prayers .

Just letting you know that healing is coming along well. Played at an outside jam yesterday and it went ok although had to quit after about an hour. The new skin is tender and my thumb does not yet have full range of motion ,but I am confident I will get there. D with F# in the base is quite difficult yet . Thanks all.

Good to hear! Keep exercising that thumb. I did stretches with my thumb, religiously, when I broke it last year, which allowed me to regain full range of motion.

Thanks everyone! I think I am on the road to 100 %. Not quite there but that F#/D is coming around. Playing a couple songs at our 3rd Friday open mic tonight. Take care all!
