Wood & Steel
« on: August 27, 2013, 08:41:28 AM »
As I am a new Taylor player, I have only received the Taylor newsletter 1 time so far, and its name didn't even occur to me.
My new acoustic music partner (who plays an 814c) and I just named our duo  "Wood & Steel" - a quick google only showed a bluegrass band down in the Carolinas, but I was searching specifically for band names.  Think there will be any 'issues' in using this band name?   I know that songwriter Tyrone Wells (who plays a Taylor, too!) used it as an album name recently.

probably just have to change it to "wood & steal your mag title"
not a bad name really when i was in a really really bad sort of  band ( it lasted 2 weeks, until our boat made it to the middle east back in '90) we named ourselves " Faux Q" the ship's captain didn't care for it but he only had to hear it for a short time.
if your into having fun with your duo how about "talouse cruise"? that'll make some people think for a bit.

As far as copyright or trademark infringements you should be Ok. If you were producing another magazine, or writing a book about Taylor Guitars and using the name that would probably be an infringement. I think a lot depends on how closely your product is to the original product. In other words the original namesake wouldn't want your product confused with theirs. There is a popular children's program used in many churches called AWANA who hold annual games between other groups in a same area/region. They used to call those games The AWANA Olympics. You guessed it, the international Olympics made them change the name because they considered it and infringement on their name. Now it's simply the AWANA Games. These issues can be tricky so if you really want that name for your band (a good name for sure) then seek legal advise from someone who deals in these issues. First, though, I would contact TG (in a business fashion, not on their FB page) and ask them if they would have a problem with this. Keep any written correspondence with any consent given.

I think Mr. Wells may have changed the title.
