I "saw" Styx play here in Boise a couple of years ago.  I wasn't actually at the concert, but was measuring noise levels outside the fence from about 150 feet away (neighborhood complaints about the outdoor venue).  They sounded the same as ever, for good or bad depending on your opinion.  Also got to hear Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers the following week.  Same job.

Sometimes after I perform, people come up and ask if I play anything that was written since 1980.  I jokingly respond that, "Yes, I play both good songs written since then".    8)

I saw Styx -- with an old girlfriend -- during their Kilroy Was Here tour.  The show was fine -- but definitely loud.  'Course, I was in college at the time, so I didn't care so much...  ;)

I wonder if your two are the same as my two...?  ;)

Hi Tim.  I don't actually have two specific songs chosen.  It was just a spontaneous one-liner.....
Maybe I should think it over on my long flight to Alaska tomorrow for guitar camp.

TG:  I'm officially "old" too.    :D   They say that as you age, memory is the second thing to go.... but I forget what the first one is.

Hey, Earl!  Yeah, I don't [have two songs chosen] either.  Apparently like you, I just don't think very many truly good songs came out of that decade...

At least not very many 80's songs that convert well over to acoustic guitar.......

Dang kids - you get off my lawn!!!   (shaking cane)

We saw Styx last year (or was it the year before :). Anyway, they were incredibly loud. I had brought earplugs just in case and glad I did. I think it was the loudest concert I'd ever been to except Aerosmith back in the day. I was amazed they were playing at those levels these days.....being an older band with an older set of fans.
James Taylor and Chicago have had the best sound level and mix we have heard in recent concerts. I'm amazed at how some groups don't get their mix right. Rascal Flatts was good, but you couldn't understand the singer over the band most of the time.

Well, lets just say my chronologically-arranged iPod playlist contains fewer and fewer songs as the '80's progressed...  To my ears, at least, the Traveling Wilburys were a breath of fresh air in an otherwise uninspired musical decade that was filled with dance-oriented synth-pop.  And we had to wait until the end of the '80's for the Wilburys to arrive on the scene...!

That may be it.  I guess I'm sounding like my father too...  ;)

They have to play that loud as none of us old farts can hear good these days! LOL
