Best gig bag on the market
« on: March 26, 2015, 12:16:07 PM »
I just scored on a perfect GC8 w/ the usual hard shell case.   As I will be traveling with this guitar to places where a hardshell Isn't practical, what is the best gig bag currently on the market for my Grand Concert?  Thanks

I've been using a Mono gig bag for years.  I've dropped it, had things dropped on it, carried it through rain, and nothing seems to faze it.  Yeah, it's not cheap, like so many bags out there, but if you value your guitar, it's an investment in safety and convenience that's totally worth it.

Well, you said "best" so it's going to cost you: Mono or Reunion Blues.

I have experience with Mono (two bags), but the RB likewise gets universal praise for its durability and protection though I've never owned one.  Bottom line is you are making some compromise with a gig bag for the purpose of utilizing features one doesn't have with a HSC.  So if one is serious about protecting a fine guitar when on the move, you can't go wrong with either of these two, IMHO.

Have had my Reunion Blues gigbag for 11 years so far.  Never had a complaint.  Sort of wish I had sprung for the leather version.  A couple of friends have had those for 25+ years.

Haven't tried (or even heard of) Mono, so can't comment.

Thanks guys, I've done the youtube data mining thing, found some shops that carry them in the Dallas area so this weekend I'll see which one is the best fit.

I don't have one myself, but several friends have pretty nice Blue Heron gig bags.  Worth investigating...

Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
