Selling at Road Shows?
« on: June 21, 2016, 11:31:39 PM »
Never been to a Road Show before, but I'm looking forward to one locally pretty soon. Is it kosher to take guitars I might want to sell in the hopes that a buyer might be there, or is that a no-no? Not wanting to be pushy, just have it if someone's desire for a Baritone 8 comes up.

I used to own a music store and unless things have changed, I'd have to say you'd be ask to leave pretty quickly. The purpose of the show is for the store to create sales, they won't want to compete with people off the street !

I'd suggest putting your equipment on consignment with the shop before the show, so everyone can see it every day, I'm sure if it's priced correctly you'll have sales and money for.....more guitars !!

Good luck :)

The road show isn't intended to be a swap meet.  It's a place where people can learn about Taylor guitars and, should they be so inclined, buy one of the ones the dealer has for sale.

Glad I asked.  Music to me is just about the music.  I sometimes forget there are livelihoods involved.  Thanks, guys!

Don't be "that guy."

LOL!  Yes, truly!  :)

Sidenote: I was at a "Friends and Family" show at the Taylor Factory, and there was this guy who was trying to hawk his guitar in the parking lot.  Not only did an employee kindly ask him to take his "sale" elsewhere, we guys in line (to get in) saw it as very bad form.  No one would give him the time of day even as he sat at the sidewalk with his FS guitar.  Yes, he was "that guy" ... :)

Fwiw, I went to the Road Show tonight and had the guitar I was selling with me, so a buddy of mine could see it (he wasn't interested in buying but I knew he wanted to check it out).  During the petting zoo portion, one guy asked about baritones. The owner let him know they didn't have any in stock. I pulled the owner to the side and told him I had one that I was actually trying to sell. I told him I understood that the event was for them to sell their stuff, and didn't want to step on any toes as I am a good customer of theirs. A little while later, the guitar is now on consignment, and they wished I had brought it in before the show to show it off a little.

Like I said before, I wouldn't try to be pushy. I guess I should have asked the shop before today, and it might have gotten sold. There were some crazy good deals tonight...
