NGD - Taylor 614ce
« on: July 26, 2015, 05:18:42 PM »
Remember that Taylor 812ce I had as an NGD about 3 weeks ago?  Well it wasn’t playing quite like I thought it should so I took it back to Gruhn in Nashville for a setup.  They agreed – it needed a setup.

While I was there I spent lots of time looking at other guitars – naturally.  A Taylor 614ce in particular just wouldn’t let me alone.  I really liked the dynamics of it, the responsiveness, the fantastic sound – it just rings when you want it to, and, of course the looks.  Long story short – I traded the 812ce back to them for the 614ce.  I’m very happy with my choice. I think for the type of playing I do the 614ce will indeed be mu “go to” guitar.  It’s very versatile; good fingerstyle responsiveness and when you flatpick or strum and really dig in the volume and tone are definitely there. It can be quite and thoughtful or really get loud – your choice. Yep – I’m loving it!

Funny, I've reached exactly the same conclusion. Except I went the 616ce route. Perfect for fingerstyle and flatpicking, strumming, responsive, great volume, can't be overdriven, awesome sound, one stop shopping. Made me sell my K24ce and my Custom GC is very likely next on the block to be sold.

Congrats! I just got to play a 614 this morning. I would have never guessed it was maple. Fantastic tone and bass like a dread. I'm a dreadnought guy, but I could fall in love with that 614. They did a really nice job with the new voicing.

Amazing back...and I know they sound amazing, too. The new 600 and 800's are hard to beat, IMO. Congrats!
