GS mini-e-RW
« on: April 06, 2015, 04:15:38 AM »
Since getting this guitar I love to play it more and more. It is just such fun to have it comfortably sitting in your lap and doodle away. I was wondering, do you think there is any chance of Taylor making a really high quality version of it? Or could you get that BTO?

Cheers, Bob.

I think there little to no chance of a "high quality" GS Mini. People would not pay what it would have to cost to be worth Taylor's trouble.

It fills a niche and does it well.

Yes you are right. I contacted Taylor about this and regretfully they said that at the moment the GS mini is not part of their BTO program. Oh well, no problem, it is fun as it is. Only problem, it is slightly more out of tune when going up the fretboard than I would like (noticeably e.g when using a capo). I find this to be somewhat the case in most guitars by the way, but this one has it just a little more.

Cheers, Bob.

By the time you get into BTO territory, the price would be in the 300 series range or maybe even reach the 400 series.  So unless you really need the GS Mini size and scale length, you'd be better off with something like a 312 or 314.  A GS Mini in a BTO version would step directly on the 300 series, so it is unlikely they will ever go that way.  The whole point of the GS Mini is to produce a decent travel / parlor guitar at a great price point.

I'd gladly pay in the 3xx, or 4xx range for a solid GSM. I've looked around for a decent mid-priced 24ish inch scale guitar. Finding either junk/kids guitars, or high end parlor's. I like the Collings Baby, but it runs as much as a K series Taylor.

azslacker, you might want to look at the CA Cargo.  1.75" neck, 22.75" scale (slightly shorter than the 23.5" Mini scale), very playable and comfortable to hold, plus it sounds much bigger than it is.  My wife just loves hers, to the point where she rarely plays her mahogany GS Mini anymore.  I'm in the same camp and would rather play the Cargo than the Mini.  When we next head for Phoenix to visit family in May, we intend to bring it along.
