I think I have tried every make of guitar string on the market over the years or so it seems.. but for my 510 I have always gone back to Elixer Nano mediums.. to me they sound the best on this guitar..Incidently when I purchased this guitar new in 96, Taylor were using D'Addarios on most if not all guitars I believe and some time later (not sure when) they moved to Elixers..

But for other guitars, a martin, Blueridge, Walden, I use D'Addario EXP 17s which sound (again to me ) better than Elixers on these guitars.

I think I heard that the EXP>Elixir switch happened in 2004, but I don't remember where I read that, so, can't be sure.

Do they put on Nano's or Poly's, does anyone know?

I use D'Addario PB lights on my GC-5. They brought up the bass and mids a bit, which was an improvement to my ears.

Of course, this is all very subjective!

Taylor used PB lights (.012 - .053) & mediums (.013 - .056), which i'm pretty
certain were d'addario ej16 & 17s, as a 00 Taylor guitar that i bought still
had the original strings on it, which were long overdue to be changed &
when i removed them they had the colored ball ends on them & i remember
the original strings on the 01 314ce i bought new were Elixir NanoWeb 80/20s

PolyWebs had been out for 6 years at that point (01) & i'm not certain, but i think the NanoWebs
came out 2 or 3 years before that & i don't recall seeing PolyWebs on a brand new Taylor guitar ???

alvarez has been using PolyWebs for the past few years (i'm not sure if they still are) &
Larrivee used Elixirs for a while & the last i heard i believe they were using ClearTones

These are my current strings of choice:

Under $3.50 per set. Basically I use a bunch of them but spend little money.

Was firmly in the Martin Marquis camp until I bought my first Taylor. Now I am mixing Elixirs and D'Addario EXPs to determine which I like best.

Just picked up a set of Martin Lifespans for my HD-28VS and I've got to say ... Wow! I am impressed. They sound broken in the moment you put them on. Nice bass response but very even across the board. My first set was PB version. Next will have to be a set of the 80/20s.

I will have to string up a Taylor and compare but I think the Martin/Cleartone folks are onto something here. Also of note, the plain steel strings are coated vs the anti-rust treatment on the Elixir plain steel strings.

More as the months go by ....
