Show Us Your Sapwood Guitars
« on: February 23, 2014, 04:26:03 PM »
This past December, I ordered a custom mountain dulcimer that will have a walnut sapwood back (and maybe sides).  Which got me thinking....

Do any of you have a Taylor guitar made with sapwood?  Other brands?  Pics please.

I think you either love the look or not....personally, I think its nature's beauty.

nothing super-exotic or highly figured, but to me it looks like a mini-wedge -

Here's a pic of the back of my 2003 Taylor Pelican - to me it looks like a cross between grafted and sapwood...

The side has a similar effect:

My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

The side has a similar effect:

Oh man.. This is an area I have a lot of experience with.
I happen to LOVE some sapwood in my guitars..
And have always looked for pieces with some interesting patterns and grains..

This one is not mine.  I do have a 2012 814ce LTD, but this is a Taylor stock photo.  Just thought I looked nice, and had to share.
