Title: 2012 Taylor BTO GA Sinker/Macassar/Koa - tons of options
Post by: briguysm on April 14, 2015, 11:01:36 AM
Hey guys and gals,

Back in 2012, I had my dream guitar built. I never thought I would even consider parting with it, I honestly planned on handing it down to my children. However, life has a funny way of changing things. With that in mind, I present to you this gorgeous and nearly flawless example of why Taylor builds some of the best guitars out there. On to the details!

2012 BTO Custom GA:
Grand Auditorium
Sinker Redwood top
Macassar Striped Ebony back/sides
natural finish
florentine cutaway
Adirondack CV bracing w/relief rout
Hawaiian Koa, figured binding
Abalone, Paua single ring bound soundhole
Macassar Striped Ebony peghead veneer
Taylor mother of pearl peg head logo
Koa Island vine fretboard inlay
Koa Island vine peghead inlay
Byzantine Presentation bridge inlay
bone nut/saddles
clear pick guard
Expression System
original Macassar Ebony truss rod cover will be included, not custom cover in photos

Except when the guitar was being played, it has always been kept in a humidity and temperature controlled studio, in the case, with D'Addario Planet Waves two-way humidification system

Remember when I said, "...nearly flawless..."? Well, that's because there is a very small nick in the headstock. Careless stage hands caused that one. >:(

Want to know what it sounds like? Here is a video:  https://vimeo.com/57555936

Ok, so now the price....This is a very well cared for guitar. Not to mention the fact that you can no longer harvest sinker redwood.
The guitar will come with the original case and paperwork, including the build sheet with an MSRP of $8,342.

I'm asking $5,100 shipped anywhere in the CONUS. I have it listed other places for more, this is a forum price only.

NOTE:  I’m not interested in trades of any kind, I have another guitar on hold already.

Nobody likes Sinker Redwood around here?  ;)

Price drop to $5,500 SHIPPED in the CONUS...but only because I know you guys (and gals) would actually appreciate an instrument like this and I know it would be taken care of and played and enjoyed.

FEEL FREE TO MAKE AN OFFER...I don't have to sell, but I have an itch for a dreadnought...so let's make this happen.

I like Sinker and that top is great. In the top line on your list it says "custom BTO GS" Next line says it's a GA. I'm more of a GC player, buy nice guitar.

One of the most beautiful sinker Taylors I've seen. Too rich for my blood, but I wish you the best of luck with your sale.

Thanks for the comments. I corrected the "GA" vs "GS" issue. Not sure how I got that mixed up. It's definitely a GA.

Somebody make an offer!

Bump it up. There's literally no other guitar like this anywhere. Make me an offer, the worst I can say is "no".

Why would you even consider selling it?

Well, I'm more than considering selling it. The reason is because I have another Sinker BTO and I don't really need two. I don't really NEED even one, honestly, lol.

The wife and I are talking about having kids, buying a bigger house, and so on...I'm not touring like I used to be, and for the playing I do now, this guitar just isn't necessary. I'm moving into a part of my life where different things are important than, say, several years ago. Let's just say I'm not under any illusions about how rare and spectacular this guitar is, but on my list of priorities "owning two spectacular guitars" is pretty far down.

Aside from the cutaway (which I dislike under any circumstances along with bevels, which both create a lack of symmetry on a guitar for me), it's a gorgeous, tasteful instrument. But like you, I already own a spectacular sinker BTO, and one is really enough. Best of luck with your sale - someone will buy it, I'm sure....

I appreciate the kind words. To be totally honest, I do wish I had ordered it without a cutaway.

Bump it up, reasonable offers are welcome.

It is a spectacular guitar, and I prefer the cutaway.  I just can't justify (to my wife) spending the amount of money you would want for that guitar.

Not going any lower, this is my bottom dollar price.

I'm sure that guitar is worth more than you are asking for it, but it seems that there is a limited market for a guitar that nice. Have you tried listing it other places? Reverb.com, ebay, etc.?

Well, your price has come down significantly, and you have 803 reads now.  It is getting attention, but the potential market is limited at that lofty altitude.

I have several more pedestrian guitars that I would like to move (mostly to regain closet space and move certain guitars to good adoptive homes).  But I've had trouble actually getting half of what I think they are worth.  So they will sit in my closet for a while longer, being played occasionally and humidified constantly, before I essentially give them away.

All valid points, and yes I have posted it on eBay with not even a single bid. I'll never list anything on eBay again, the fees are so ridiculous you have to price your item way above what you hope to get in order to actually get it.

I'm not desperate. If it doesn't sell at this price, I'll just keep it. No harm done. I completely understand the market culture being what it is. I don't need to squeeze blood out of a turnip here. If it works it works, if not then I still have a remarkable guitar. Thanks for the comments, all.

Just FYI,

The only trade I would be interested in is a 910 dreadnought with no cutaway and with expression system in pristine condition + money on your end.

What's the problem? Another custom sinker just sold on here...yet I haven't even had a single legit offer.

I'm not desperate to sell, so I can't give it away...maybe that's the problem?

Everyone tells me how nice the guitar is, yet nobody wants it when it's for sale? lol

Since you asked, I think if it had a Venetian cutaway instead of the Florentine, it would have sold.  Gorgeous guitar.

That makes sense...but I've seen a few with this type of cutaway, so I figure somebody has to like it.

No "problem" that I can see.  And the Florentine is actually preferable to some (I like the Venetian well enough, but prefer the aesthetics of the Florentine, for example).  It is just never easy to sell a higher-priced guitar (BTDT).  As the price goes north, buyers tend to be more discerning and specific about what they want.  So while this is clearly a gorgeous guitar that is well-spec'd and fairly priced, it is a waiting game to fine the special person who wants its unique features.

If you want a quicker sale, adjust accordingly.  But if you have patience, give it time (and exposure to multiple listings).  But remember that the market is still the market, so one always must balance one's personal goal with what is available and desirable.  Best of luck on this beautiful guitar!  :D
