We have done this thread before, but there has been the redesigned 800 and 600 series since then, so I would like to pose the question again. You can only have one Taylor, what would it be?
-
After a couple on minutes of thought, I'd hang on to my GS-Mini. Easy to fly with, and a great instrument for camping trips.
-
It would be my 2006 koa / spruce GS, bought used and locally in 2010. It is my best guitar, period - satisfying tonally, visually, playability and comfort-wise. Second choice would be my all koa 2007 424 LTD.
I got to spend some time with the new 600's and 800's recently. They are very nice and will be "lifetime" guitars for many, but I already have mine. The newer offerings are appealing, but I'm all set.
-
Everything considered (tone, volume, looks, feel, etc.) I'd say my K24ce.

I was hoping you would pick something else and would give me your K24ce... :P

Sorry about that Kristen.
-
They're still making K24's Kristen if you really want one. But if I were starting down that road anew, I would opt for a K26.
(I like big bouts and I cannot lie.......) :D
-
If I could only have one, it's a toss-up between my 516e and my custom GA 12 fret. The latter is strictly acoustic, but I could play in front of a mike, if push comes to shove. No way will I consider adding a pickup to that one. The 516e can go either way, plugged in or not. So it is more flexible out of the gate.
-
Hmmm... I'd have to say my T5. Very versatile.
-
818e grand orchestra
kind of a no-brainer for me, since it's the guitar i play the most (75+%) and my only taylor 6 string.
have not felt any need for another 6 string since i got this one.
-
I do have only one Taylor--my 314ce. If I had to have another one, I think I would really like a GS in the 600 or 800 series. That would be a save it for my grandkids kind of guitar.
-
Very easy... my 2013 Fall LTD 516e (figured 'hog, European spruce top).
Nick
-
This question is no longer easy for me...I love all the guitars in my signature, so it would be difficult at best to pick one...each wood combination offers something special and unique. I'm blessed to have them all, because each one's perceived weakness is compensated for by another's strength. In my long quest to find THE ONE, I've concluded that it doesn't exist. If stranded on a desert island, I'd be happy to be left with any one of these.....

I may or may not have purchased a K26 today. Maybe. Maybe not :o

I just saw your NGD post. Congrats on the awesome koa!

So, Is that the one Taylor that you would keep or one of your other Taylors? It is a beautiful Taylor and often they are great sounding.
-
I have two Taylors and a few other guitars. If I had to choose, it would be my 814ce. But, it is not fair to make one choose ;)
-
Apparently, I can only have one Taylor. That's what my wife says. So it would be my GA7, cedar over EIR.
-
I'm with Nick.....owned 15 Taylors in the last 2 yrs...have 2 left....my favorite, 2013 516e FLTD....perfect Taylor for me!
-
i own it.
-
So, Is that the one Taylor that you would keep or one of your other Taylors? It is a beautiful Taylor and often they are great sounding.
Yes..... Because it is my only Taylor now. Need to update my sig block, but sold the rest to go in big on Koa
-
My one and only Taylor is a 2010 910. I don't play her as often I as should, she is my baby and my first high end guitar ever. She is protected in her original Taylor case with a humidipak and wiped down after every play session. She never leaves my home and she plays well to this day.
-
One that I already have? My BR-VII which is a lot like a 12-fret 522.
Hypothetically, say if I had to choose one model without playing it first? An 814.
-

OK, so if only one I'd choose either:
1) 2013 FLtd 514 (engel spruce over figured mahog) or
2) any cedar/rw Taylor from the GA7/714 series of years back.
Of all of Taylor's considerable options and combinations, sonically these two really nail it. I could truly live with either of these splendid guits doing all acoustic duty for me.

Difficult question. But I'd have to say my 2015 612ce 12-fret. So easy to perform with, it's small and so am I. ;)

I think I could live with #1 as well. As long as I could keep my Coco/Spruce, but now the list is the "one" pluse one, and that is the way it is with six string(Taylor) lovers.
-
My 150e. Yes, it's a low level Taylor. But it is the right guitar for our band. In fact, just got back from a festival where we played 3 times a day for 4 days. Loved being able to plug into the board for most of the shows. For the pure acoustic set, the 12 string was able to project across a fairly large room. My bandmate's nyckelharpa needed a microphone for those shows. Folks in the audience said I was fine without one.
It's also very stable and was able to tolerate the temperature and humidity changes without going all out of whack. Was especially appreciated during a couple of jam sessions off the festival grounds. In those instances needed to pull out the guitar and whack away, without much chance of tuning.

Great choices Edward. Of course I'm a bit biased since I own #1 and a modern version of #2. Anyway you've got great taste!
-
an 814 would suffice ;D
-
I'd have to go with my 2015 614ce if I could only have one.
-
I posted this in the "holy grail" thread, but it seems appropriate here as well. For me, it would be a mid-90's 912 or 912c with Engelmann... to really go nuts Brazilian back and sides, although I don't know if they made them with BRW. I've really grown into a rosewood guy and love the GC/OM body size.
That said, a friend has a Taylor 12 string that sounds like a hundred beautiful guitars playing at once. I am not sure of the model, but it's got amazing tone.
-
Howdy,
The best sounding Taylor I've played is the 518e Grand Orchestra. Big, articulate tone (It's a 'Hog, afterall) and easy playability; What's not to like?
-
2015 614ce. Best tone from all Taylors. Great playability
-
I might go for a 618E....but wouldn't want to sacrifice my 314LTD Koa...
-
Gs mini for me.
-
Well,
I only have one Taylor,
so this is easy, my 110.
-
I'd say my 324 or a GA4/414 if I had one....
-
The T5z is such a versatile, comfortable guitar. The warmth and simplicity of an acoustic with the dynamic range, versatility, playability and comfort of an electric. It's a masterpiece.
-
The 2016 322e 12-Fret is top of my shopping list at the moment, so I might change my mind later in the year. I love my 816ce, and I've already posted that it's the best guitar I've ever owned, and probably the best guitar I've ever played. But if I was stuck on a desert island and could only take one Taylor, I don't need too long to think about it - it would be my Mini Koa. I think the Mini is good enough to be the only guitar you'd ever need, if push came to shove...
-
A Rosewood GC 12 fret. Hands down my favorite guitar style, done brilliantly by Taylor
-
When I read these posts, I see the variety of answers and smile........my compliments to Taylor for a job well done. All our needs/wants are different and there's something out there for everyone. Probably also explains why many of us have multiple Taylors.
-
Have to pick my 712e - beautiful sound, great for fingerpicking, fits me like a well worn t-shirt.
-
My 2015 816ce. There was something about that guitar that drew me in at the first strum.
If I had to let everything else go, that would be the one I keep.
D
-
simple, my '95 812ce. It's been my main guitar since 1995. I could get rid of the others and be fine (I won't, but I could...hypothetically) ::)
-
I can't answer this one. But I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to own the two I have.
-
2013 516e FLTD
-
I might be the only one here who has already answered this for myself.
Once I had my 616ce FE in my hands, I knew my other guitars were toast.
Mind you, my other guitars at the time included this:
A Custom Cocobolo GC
(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa174/apocalyps0/IMG_0400%20new_zpsqrp1qqc5.jpg)
and this AA Koa K24ce:
Every once in a while I miss looking at them, but I don't really miss them. So yeah, interesting question, food for thought. 8)
-
At this point, I've only had 4
214
DN3
GS6
2013 FLTD 516
Of those, I still have the GS6 and my current favorite, the 516e FLTD.

Ditto for me at this time. I've got all hog, cedar/EIR, sitka/EIR, sitka/mahogany, Engelman/mahogany, Adi/mahogany, sitka/silver oak, sitka/sapele (12 string), and carbon fiber construction combinations as well as parlor, GC, GS, GA, OM, OO, dreadnaught and slope shouldered dread body sizes and finally 12 fret and 14 fret necks. It's a great "spice rack" and I love the unique voicing of each one. I'd opt to add a koa guitar in the future.
-
It would have to be my 2012 Spring Ltd 814ce Cocobola. To my ears the best guitar I have ever played. Great sustain, plays like butter. I'm using the new SCGC strings and they are a perfect match.
-
OK I've been watching this one for a while , so have had time to think it out ..... 1 and only Taylor, Ok It will have to be my 914ce L7. The sound is perfect all around.
The Kenny Loggins/KLSM came in 2nd place.
-
I replied earlier, but my opinion has changed. I really like the mahogany topped 300s. I also really like the vintage cool of the sunburst 700s. And of course the redesigned 800s have all the latest and greatest features. So if I could have only ONE....I would choose....shoot, I can't decide.
Wait, I think I've got it figured out--GS in 300; DN in 700; and GA in 800. There you go--only ONE guitar in three different series. Problem solved.
-
I would have to go with my 1998 614 with quilted maple and the old Fishman pu
Like me, it has a few dings and dents
but still plays and sounds to my liking
I thought the SE W14 I bought a few years ago would quickly become my fav
But it's so dang pretty I'm reluctant to play it very much and I never take it to jams
Finally decided I'm just gonna sell it to someone deserving of such a fine instrument
-
Fishhawk, don't be too hasty about selling the W14.
I kinda have the same issue with my koa / spruce GS from 2006. Great guitar, but it is still in pristine condition (literally looks showroom new). Most of the dents and dings tend to accumulate while playing outside the house. I'm trying to overcome this attitude and fully enjoy my BEST guitar, but it is not easy. It was bought used, and I might have been better off had it come already wearing its first ding. My 2007 all-koa 424 LTD suffers from the same malady too, but to a lesser extent. Among my wood guitars, these will be the last two to go.

You are right about not selling the W14 and working harder at just enjoying it
I too bought mine used but in immaculate condition
(The former owner probably suffered from the same issues I have in wanting to preserve the guitar)
After submitting my post, I immediately got the W14 out of the case and enjoyed picking and looking at it for over 2 hours
After that session I had made up my mind to keep it and then my wife walked in and told me how sweet the guitar sounded , " filled the room with such great sound and looks sooo pretty"
Well , That clinched it for me
The W14 has a home
Enjoy those beautiful Koas!!!!
I have a T5 C2 Koa that I will be selling for sure
I'm just not an electric guitar guy
Acoustic to the bone I guess

Good for you, Earl and Fishhawk!
I've made this point before, sometimes with some fairly hostile responses. I love all my guitars. I think they're all beautiful, both visually and sound-wise. I try to keep them in as pristine condition as possible. But I recognize that they are instruments just as their more modestly appointed counterparts are. So I say, play them whenever and wherever you can and enjoy them. Back in NY, I had lots of friends with antique autos. They said that they don't belong in the garage, but out on the road to be enjoyed by the driver and the people who get to see them.
-
The only Taylor currently in my sig. My 95 612 Custom.
I played a new 612-12 fret and it was great. If they got rid of the holes in the upper bout, the holes in the end piece, the holes in the bridge and went natural colors to let the maple and spruce show through, I might seriously have thought about taking it home.
Even if they did all that, I'd still have a hard time giving up the 95 612 though. There's something about 90's Taylor's that they still can't beat.

My Custom 12-fret Mahogany GC. Beautiful looks, beautiful tone.

Amen to that
