NGD - Unusual GS Mini-e Koa
« on: October 17, 2016, 08:02:34 PM »
Wasn't planning to buy a Mini, I already had one (which I've now sold). But then this happened and I figured, I won't see another one like that.  8)

Near AA or better flamed koa top - very 3 dimensional, the flame appears and disappears as you rotate it. Almost like looking through a prism!

Thrilled to have it, haven't seen another like it.... anywhere!

Wow!  That's a nice top!  I've seen a number of GS Mini Koas with some interesting figuring in the tops; but yours, by far, has the most flame of those I've seen!  Congratulations!  Where'd you pick it up?

That's a beauty, much nicer than mine and it's a nice one on it's own.
If you live in the USA & want a free figured Koa truss rod cover for it, second one from the left, just PM me an address to send it to.
I'll throw it in an envelope with a stamp.

Thanks, that is very kind! I'll update with a photo here later.

Thanks everyone, can you tell I'm excited? Gotta be 1 in 5,000.

Timfitz, found it online at Willcutt Guitars. They had just posted a new batch in their "New arrivals" section, so I caught it before hardly anyone had chance to even see it.

The rest of the story is... I was sitting in a plane waiting for takeoff before they closed the door when I saw it online. We had to shut down our phones for the flight and initially I thought I'd look again at it and possibly buy it after we landed. I connected to wifi on the plane to do some work while flying and then started to realize I would regret it for a long time if it was bought by someone during the flight. So, I went and looked at it again and bought it in mid-air!  8)

Here's a YouTube which shows the 3 D aspect of the flame. It doesn't capture the "depth" of the flame, in fact here it just looks kinda fuzzy, but you really can see it "live". At least here you'll see the flame "disappear" as I rotate it.

Great Find!

That is awesome grain.  Does it sound as great as it looks?

Sweet looking guitar. Congratulations

Yes, sounded very similar to my two year old Mini koa. Happy about that because figured wood sometimes doesn't sound great and my other Mini had opened up some.

I kind-of had a feeling about that...  I just got into Lexington, KY on Sunday evening; I'll be working a test program here for the next several months.  I also recently saw the same batch of GS Mini-e Koas on Willcutt's web site; there were a lot of nice-looking ones, so I thought I'd wander over to the shop this weekend and check a few of them out in person.  Looks like you may have beaten me to the pick of the litter, though...!  I watched the video and saw what you were saying about the flame.

Very cool!  I imagine the reverse can't be very often claimed, though (i.e., buying an airplane while in a guitar shop...!) ;)

They got in a very impressive batch as you say... good luck this weekend!
