No more sunburst option for the 900 series?
« on: February 19, 2016, 04:06:08 PM »
I no longer see sunburst as an option.  Does anyone know why?

The thinner finish now featured on the 900  800 and 600 series cannot be achieved with a burst, at least not yet. To my knowledge there is no option for the standard, thicker finish that supports a burst on these series.

2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany

Interesting........  I thought that the burst is a stain that goes directly on the wood, then the finish goes over that.  I would never have guessed that the thinner 3.5 mil cured polyester finish would present a problem getting a sunburst finish.  They still do edgeburst with the thin finish, right?  Or am I missing something?  Color me puzzled....in edgeburst.     :o

No, I believe that all bursts are off limits with the thinner finish for now...

Bursts require layered applications so they are by nature thicker. The standard finish supports this while the thinner one doesn't.

Really?  Is that why Taylor doesn't offer the 600 series in all different colors anymore?

Yes. I believe so...

On another note, I had a cedar rosewood GA built with lots of paua inlays and an edge burst top. It looks just fine!
