I probably fingerpick 75% of the time, and strum with a flat pick the rest. it depends on the situation. When I am solo, I have an extensive repertoire of finger style instrumentals (Piedmont, ragtime, slack-key) plus I accompany my voice with fingerstyle patterns and embellishments. When strumming (as in bluegrass or other jams) I mostly play rhythm, or Carter style rhythm and bass, aka "boom-chuck" with connecting runs. On my "to learn" list is lead / melodic playing and soloing with a flatpick, but so far that has come quite slowly.
