The sound of 712e 12 fret vs 712ce (14 fret)
« on: October 27, 2018, 12:09:58 PM »
Can anyway tell if they hear a big/better difference between a 712e 12fret and a 712 ce (14 fret)? I am about to buy the 712ce-because Taylor told me the neck length is the same but I see it is relational to the bridge being set farther back on the 12th fret. I can’t find these guitars to actually play. Ordering online. Both are 2017 so new bracing??... I think. Thanks!!

Can you find a 312 or 412 12 fret and compare to your 414?

Or do a search on 12 frets here, I'm sure there are dozens of reviews and comparisons to 14 fret.

My sister has a 712 - 12 fret and I really like it. Basically the centered bridge placement will give more mid-range and bass tones than a 14 fret bridge. After getting my first 12 fret I could never go back to a 14 fret guitar . . .

Thank you. I’ll check. Since I like low end sound, kind of what I thought...12 fret more low end with bridge farther back....

If you don't need the dusty part of the fretboard, don't mind the slothead and don't mind the extra $ then I would say go for the 12-fret.

I love my 12fret GC’s, great guitars. On the bracing, if by “new” you mean v-class, they won’t be as that is coming soon on the GC body but I don’t think it’s out yet. Don’t let that scare you, those 712’s are great, although I have only played a 14 fret. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Not sure if this will help or not.
Over a year ago I ordered a 322 12 Fret thru my local GC. They sent the guitar, except
in a 14 fret version. I was disappointed, but played it anyway. It did not have the fuller,
bassy sound that the one I had previously played. But I could really strum it hard and
it had some good headroom.
I held out for the correct 12 Fret and the difference was very noticeable. My particular 12 Fret
has a nice full tone. The 14 Fret is possibly more versatile.

so in short, you are saying we should all get both!

Thank you all for your input. I really wanted the 12 fret based on all I’ve heard about more low end & I play a lot of walking bass lines) but couldn’t pass up the 14 fret. Probably I’ll get a 12 fret in the future but for now, the 14 fret is still awesome.
