NGD! New 414ce-R.
« on: December 12, 2019, 09:57:29 PM »
NGD!!! I’d had 100 & 200 series Taylor’s several years ago & just couldn’t bond with the treble-focused voice. I had a sound in my head of how a guitar should sound..and a Martin gave that to me. But, for the last year, I have been drawn out of curiosity to the “new” V-braced Taylor’s...and after playing sever al in my dealers “Taylor Room”, I decided to give Bob & Andy another shot. THIS is the outcome...and I am so glad I came back. This 2019 414ce-r has a huge, but sweet voice with plenty of bottom end, and a balanced shimmer across the strings! It resonates forever...and the neck fits my hand better than any guitar I’ve owned before. It’s a keeper! 😎

Congratulations... love the bear claw

Thanks, GC...but you know, that's the only thing about the guitar that I'm on the fence about. I've never ever liked bearclaw...at all. This is kind of different, but I'm still not 100% onboard. It's actually not even the same guitar that was depicted in the photos on the dealer website...the one depicted had really nice, even straight grain to the Sitka top...not the bear claw on the one I got. I'm struggling with thinking I might return it for an exchange.

Congrats on the new guitar! If you do not like the bear claw look-- some love them, some hate them-- I would highly recommend returning. It's something you will probably notice every single time you see the guitar in the case or on the wall. For what it's worth, I saw a 414ce-r at a local shop in sunburst and it was absolutely stunning.

Whatever you decide, I hope it works out.

By all means return it   and get what you want. It bothers me that it is not the same as the one you saw on the website. On-line dealers should be selling  serial numbered guitars . They should not be selling  by series and just shipping you the  one  they happen to grab off the rack. I think you need to do a "do over" here... maybe even with another dealer.

I really like the top of your 414.  I have both kinds of tops, with and without bearclaw.  I personally would prefer the one you have over the vanilla look.  On the other hand if they were selling by serial number and that is not the pictured guitar you thought you were getting well by all means send it back if you want.

Finally made a decision (I’m not usually this flaky) and sent the pictured 414ce-r back to do an exchange. I decided that, I didn’t HATE the bear claw...I wasn’t a great fan of it, and I’d see it every time I looked at the guitar, and be a little disappointed. The shop actually admitted there was a screw up as well, and the guitar I got wasn’t the one I had picked out of the four they had in stock. Nice guys, easy to deal with.

Sooooo...I’ll have at least a NGD picture to show soon!  :)

Don't blame you a bit. It's YOUR guitar, you have to be happy, especially when you are spending that amount of money. Given the fact that they didn't send you the guitar that you picked out, is even more reason. Happy to hear they acknowledged the error and are making it right. You should be all set once you get your new, new 414ce-R. Keep us posted.
