456 ce 12 R...more info?
« on: September 03, 2019, 12:54:20 PM »
Trying to find out more about
this guitar.  I just traded a new 2013
Rick 360/12 I couldn’t play and $300 for it.
The Taylor was slightly used.

Anybody experienced with it? The model
was only made last year I guess and was
replaced by the 414.

Thanks,
an old Jammer

Let's see...the 456 is a 12 string grand symphony model. (The 414 is a grand auditorium 6 string model that has been part of Taylor's offerings since the 1990s, I believe.) The 456 was first produced in the mid to late 2000s. Not sure when they stopped making them. I believe that some may have been limited editions, but I'm not sure if yours is one of them. Standard top should be sitka spruce and the standard back/sides should be ovangkol. If you contact Taylor with the serial number they can provide a world of information about that guitar. Hope this helps!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Welcome to the forum 12forever!
Strumming Fool was correct about the
Standard woods... but if yours has the "R".. in
model number.. it denotes that the back and sides
are made of Rosewood... a definite upgrade in my
opinion! It should have plenty of bottom
bass in its signature tone...and should put out
Plenty of volume since it is a Grand Symphony body shape. It should also deliver a good 12 string experience for you... with Taylors inherent playability
built in.

Sounds like an awesome rosewood 12-string Taylor.

All the best with it!
