Pickguards for Taylor Grand Pacifics...
« on: April 30, 2019, 07:07:28 PM »
Was wondering if anyone had purchased a pick guard for their new Taylor Grand Pacific. I know that I can contact Taylor to find out if they've made them available but thought I'd check with my UTGF buddies first...

Well, I'm not a fan of pickguards in general - don't need 'em even for strumming - and dislike the Taylor shape in particular.  To me it's a great big plus when a Taylor guitar does not come with a pickguard installed - saves me the trouble of removing it and the risk of tan lines.  So I would opt for clear first, followed by the classic Martin teardrop shape as a second choice.  I also prefer solid black or brown over tortoiseshell, so I'm probably in the minority anyway.  YMMV.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.

Since a static cling pick guard only works on a gloss finish, what temporary options do the satin finish owner's have?

Call Taylor and see if they have a permanent clear one for the GP models.  They don't the permanent ones listed on their website due to the many variations in sizes of their pickguards. I'm sure on of their clear ones will work on this body.  I've ordered and had them on multiple high-end Taylors and really prefer the clear ones.

The 317 comes with a Pickguard.  I read that Taylor will be selling Pickguards for the 517 & 717 in the near future.
