New ELO music soon?
« on: March 24, 2019, 02:00:09 AM »
It is reported that Jeff Lynn is ready to release a new ELO album.  Has anybody heard any thing about this

I've heard these rumors as well -- for quite some time now.  But as this article is already three years old, and Jeff is notorious for being something of a perfectionist who takes his sweet time about such things, it's really hard to say when any such album (which I presume is a follow-on to 2015's Alone In The Universe) will surface...  He's also been touring almost nonstop since 2015, so from a practical standpoint I'm not sure when he'll actually have time to get into a studio and record any new material...

I would personally be confident that if Jeff Lynne says he's working on another ELO album, that he actually is; but his timetable for getting it out is known only to him...  When one takes into account that that last three album releases from ELO came in 1986, 2001, and 2015 (all roughly 15 years apart), it's clear to see that Jeff isn't necessarily in any particular hurry to put out new songs...  So as much as I like ELO and would be excited at the prospect of a new album from them in the near future, I've learned never to count the ELO eggs before they'e hatched...

Well, it seems we were not so far away from a new studio release by ELO as I'd previously speculated; as if the album title was prophetic, Jeff Lynne has given us From Out Of Nowhere, released on 01 November 2019.  Individual tracks had been trickling out since late September.

It always seems like one needs to keep their ear to the ground where Jeff Lynne is concerned...  These days he'll keep everyone waiting for new material for years, then quietly toss something out there without so much as a mention of it -- not even a hint or tease of this forthcoming release -- at ELO's final concert during their 2019 tour, in Pittsburgh in August...

Some friends of mine just formed an ELO cover band called Strange Magic. They sound really good.

Ah, that's very cool!  Sounds like they're doing a very good job of playing the songs!  I will have to keep alert in case their tour swings through my neck of the woods!
