710 1985
« on: December 09, 2018, 02:48:19 AM »
I have an opportunity to purchase a 1985 710 (Lemon Grove built) in very very good original condition...including nut /saddle/tuners etc. I notice this has a 3-piece back and a Martin type ebony bridge unlike the newer smiley bridge. Did these early ones have Tusq saddle and nuts? How do these sound compared to say a 90's 710 in terms of volume & tone /bass/fullness/clarity/resonance. Does anyone have one of these or has anyone played/compared them?

i'm paying close attention to this as well. Would love for someone to post some pics of one. I graduated from HS that year. I'll bet they sound amazing. I wish I could subscribe to this thread..... ;)

I have the 1985 Taylor 710....Only change I made was to change out the original Micarta saddle and install a Colosi vintage Bone saddle...Very good sounding Taylor quite unlike the bright sounding typical Taylor dred. This one sounds closer to a Martin than a Taylor. The neck profile is quite thin front to back similar to say a Fender Strat neck making it very easy to play anywhere on the neck. I may be selling this Taylor though since I prefer Martins.
