Hello! OldIbanez here.
« on: August 22, 2018, 11:59:33 PM »
Hello! Long time lurker as well as long time novice player. Live near Iowa City but grew up in Michigan. Bought both guitars I have from Elderly Instruments in East Lansing as new. They made sure to set up my Ibanez concord 670 back in 77 and took good care of me then. I saved all summer of my 15th year for that guitar. That is why I got my bucket list ps56ce Cocobolo from them as well in late May of 2015. Beautiful guitar but I find myself a little afraid to play it for fear of a dent or scratch. I know it will come in time but I love the Cocobolo figure so much it seems almost more like a sculpture to me rather than a musical instrument. Getting ready to get an Acoustic Remedy case for it so I don't have to keep pulling the humidipacks out from between the 12 strings every time I want to play it. Retuning it is no fun after pulling the pack out of the body. When I do tune it up it plays and sounds like a happy dream. They only built 12 ps56ce models in 2015 and I assume most of those were ebony.  As a result I figure I got one of the last 6 ps56ce models made of Cocobolo. Wouldn't trade or sell it for anything. Thank you Taylor and Elderly (and my wife who made it possible).

Welcome. I've been an Elderly customer since 1974 and still remember getting my first guitar from them (an Ibanez DN) in East Lansing. Great store and great people. Sounds like a beauty of a 12 string. Would love to see pics of it.

Welcome from another PS56ce owner (mine is 2013).

They are truly magical guitars and I cannot put mine down.

These guitars are "Functional Art" and are meant to be played.  Enjoy in good health!

PS - I'd love to see a photo of the back...please?

Welcome to the forum OldIbanez.  I have a Taylor Cocobolo in the form of an 814ce, love the tone.

Hello All, I am going to try to add some pictures.  I found out it is not so easy to take a pic that shows the wood grain properly so please forgive an old phone camera.  There is no sapwood on the back of the guitar but there is a sapwood band all the way around the sides where they attach to the top.  I have not seen another like it which is fine with me.  I love it.

Quite unique, it is pretty. I'm actually one who likes the character of sapwood. My K24 has sapwood on the front and back.

I agree. When I got my Ibanez so long ago, I would have been hard pressed to tell it apart from another one of the same model and type. With the Taylor, I would know it in a second (but I don't mind having a serial number too). I was a little worried about the sapwood at first since I didn't know if it would affect the tone or integrity of the guitar in a negative way. A little research and some playing put those fears to rest. Now I just enjoy having a unique work of art with which I can try to create a little art myself. :)

Thank you for sharing the pictures OldIbanez!  Gorgeous!

On your guitar, it looks cool the way the sapwood sets the cocobolo apart from the ebony armrest, almost a layered effect.

Enjoy that beautiful guitar, both visually and sonically!
