"New" member from AZ

Just realized I never said hello here. I've been lurking a while but thought I'd start contributing now. Been a long time frequenter of the Gear Page, but thought this would be a better place to direct my Taylor specific questions.

I currently own a old 414ce (w/ Fishman) and a 2014 514ce and constantly on the lookout for new guitars to try out :)

Welcome Geosh!

Love the 514, regardless of year made. They're great examples of what can be achieved with mahogany.  What woods were used on your old 414? Spruce /Ovangkol or some other combo?
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Yes, it is Spruce/Ovangkol. I remember when I purchased it, I played every Taylor I could get my hands on and this one just stood out. They even had a couple 414's at the time. I wrote down the serial number and then came back with a buddy a couple days later to make sure it was "the one". We both picked the same one again as the standout (without verifying serial numbers first) and he said if I wasn't going to buy it then he was.

It needs a partial refret at this point, but still plays pretty well and still sounds incredible. I got a newer (2013) 814ce a while back and ended up selling it because my 414 just had that sound covered (the 814 sure was pretty though).

Yes, I'm a huge ovangkol fan as well. Sounds like a great all-around guitar.

I had pretty much the same experience when purchasing my 414 (ovangkol) in 2002. They had 2, but the one was superior. I practically had to rip it out of another guy's hands, though, when I returned to the store to purchase it. I waited patiently for him to put it down, then I snatched it up. The guy ended up following me most of the way home. Got crazy.  :-\
