This morning before work I was reading through some of the old issues of Wood and Steel that are available through the Taylor website and in one of the 'Ask Bob' columns, someone wrote in asking about taking off a pickguard. Bob mentioned that although it will leave a silhouette, the color of the wood will even out after 2-3 years.

How did you remove your pick guard?  my 710e has a corner that is slightly lifting and bent and I want to remove and replace it......
I would use dental floss.

Mild heat -- such as a hot water bottle you can comfortably touch, or a hair drier -- will soften up the pick guard material and the glue.  Go slow and peel up from a corner, trying to pull away.  Put the glue surface in shear, don't pull straight upward away from the top.  Dental floss can be used to help anything that is being stubborn.  Clean up any glue residue with naptha (Ronsonol lighter fluid) and a soft cotton or micro fiber cloth.

Be very careful on new guitars.  The spruce can be stringy for the first year or two of its life and you call pull up fibers, like on a celery stalk.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.

I have the permanent clear pick guards on my W10ce and Koa GS because I’m a strummer and don’t want to scratch the finish up on my guitars. Just call Taylor to order one. They don’t have them on the website and the girl told me they do that so when you call they’ll make sure you’re getting the right one.

@ SPRINTBOB: Sorry if this is off topic, but heck, you’re here. I’m pretty sure I have the same 2017 714ce GA 12 fret as you. I’m looking for something that pairs with my singing style.

I have a 29 yr old Takamine 12 that came with no pickguard.   I'm also a flatpicker and that particular Tak was my No:1  for 27 years in a Celtic Folk band. When I bought it, the dealer offered to put a "clear" guard on it, but it was a satin finish and I said no, thank you.

It's got some road wear and a couple of dings, but there are no scratches worthy of note in the area below the strings.

That said, it also hasn't been "satin" finish since about a year after I bought it.  Oh well.

I guess my "style" (light picks, light strumming) seems to be okay without a guard, so I have no plans to put one on the much newer T5z that's my current mainstay.
