I've always been happy with one or two guitars. I think the most I've owned at one time is three, but that's pretty rare. Right now I just have two, my 110e and a gem - my K Yairi classical. The 110e is a strong, practical gigger so I'm not thinking of adding another instrument - yet -

I'm curious, how many people here are happy with one or two guitars, or how many like to run a herd? Both are valid.   :)

I have a mini herd. Over the many, many years I’ve just hung on to certain ones. But my family of guitars always shrinks because I like to trade up and I’ll usually trade 2 guitars for one I want more. But I do like to have at least a few for different tunings, especially raised B since it’s stringed different. I don’t think there is a right or wrong amount to have. The important thing is that you love the ones you do have.

Having bought and sold guitars for over 20 years, I finally  found my soul mate guitar - the Taylor GA, in the late nineties. As you can see from the signature below, I like the differences in all the flavors (bracing, woods, etc.). But I still feel that seven would be an ideal number - one for each day of the week!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Hey SF,

If you like 'em all, don't pressure yourself to sell any, even if you pull the trigger on a new one. It's all about the journey. While 7 may be ideal, just extend the rotation. Baseball uses a 5 man starting rotation now and no one finishes games. I remember when there was a 4 man rotation and they bopped 'till they dropped. Or they brought in Dick 'the Monster' Radatz in the 6th or 7th inning to finish the game. So try some relief appearances; you might surprise yourself. I speak from experience; on some days a given guitar just isn't doing it. And a 12 string makes for a great reliever. And there are some days I just don't get a chance to play. Boo, hiss.

I will also admit to playing favourites. My 412 gets the lion's share of playtime, followed by my 355 and 818. No real planned rotation. I just mentioned the rotation thing because you mentioned the "one for each day of the week" thing; just having some fun with it. Which one's your bestie?

Enjoy,
Don
