  • Getting better one strum at a time...

Pretty guitar, Jeff!  I've never sampled Engelmann paired with Maple, but really like the way it pairs with Mahogany or any type of Rosewood.  Enjoy!

That is simply gorgeous. I wouldn’t add a pick guard personally, but that’s based solely on how I think it looks right now. What kind of guard were you thinking?

Was thinking black.  But I think I am leaning to not putting one on.

That's a beauty!!!! Try a static cling clear pick guard, until you decide. Its a minimal investment. I use one on my K26. They show up when they are on - they are not invisible , but at least you are not hiding that beautiful top permanently. I strum so I have to have one. If you are finger style player, you can do without...

GC has it right.  Try the invisible (but not really) static pickguard, it is inexpensive, and if you don't like it just peel it off and go a different route.

I agree about the static-cling pick guard to protect the finish.  I've generally been advised to not leave them on the finish all the time, as the way some finishes react to the plastics can be unpredictable -- and undesirable.  Taylor's UV finishes are pretty durable though, so you might be OK in this case.

Congratulations!  Beautiful guitar!

Yes, the clear removable static guard states to not leave it on.  I also struggled with this decision (pickguard or not).

I changed my technique to play over the soundhole and to unanchor my hand (I previously anchored to the top of bridge).  Additionally, I changed my hold to only play with about 1/8'' of the pick exposed.  I practiced and practiced (and practiced) making my strumming/flatpicking is more precise.  This took several months to change, but I feel the tone of the guitars (all of them) is much better as well.  No scratches in 1.5 years.

The only drawback is when someone else wants to play...

If I owned that guitar, I would never play it -- I would be too busy looking at it! Congrats!

I like the sound of it too much to not play it.  Pictures of it are on all my devices.
