Nobody Told Me!
« on: February 23, 2018, 05:25:25 PM »
So, if you have read my welcome post.  You know that I churned several guitars in 3 months.

So, from middle December 2017 to now:

Taylor Academy 12e - exchanged for a 10e.
Taylor Academy 10e - exchanged for another 10e.
Taylor 224ce-K DLX - discovered a crack in it returned it and upgraded to 324ce.
Taylor 324ce - Nothing wrong with this guitar but exchanged it and the 10e for a 414ce Special Edition
Taylor 414ce Special Edition (Engelmann Spruce/Indian Rosewood) - Keeping this forever.

So, I was down to 1 guitar.  I had thought I convinced myself that I would limit myself to one wood acoustic guitar due to the humidity maintenance requirements.

So, I orded a RainSong H-WS1000N2.  I want something that I can leave out and pick up and practice and take camping and not worry about it as much.  Still waiting for this one.  Ordered from a local shop rather than online.

Link to video of someone playing the same model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNvH2mrUPZ8

So that would bring the total up to 2.

So, due to excessive youtube viewing, the Taylor Wildwood 414ce Maple appears.  I watch this video.  Fell in love with the looks and sound.  Huge GAS episode. Over the next week, I fight and fight to resist the urge.  However, I gave in yesterday and ordered the last one.  Delivery is expected on Tuesday 2/27.

Link to video of the exact guitar that is now mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxxfsWv9bXo

So, that brings the total up to 3.

Nobody told me it was going to be like this.  I thought when I started that I would use the 12e for a long time before getting different or additional guitars.

Hey, congrats on all the new guitars. You have to have the record, though, for the best stable of guitars, after playing guitar for only 2+ months!  ;)

Um...   there’s one more thing.  I have not included it yet because I was doing some minor tweaks/fixes. I also purchased a 1982 Peavey T-60.

Hi Jeff-Congrats on condensing your guitar journey! It took me years to get to this point, but still suffering from GAS. I think my wood guitar stable is set for now, unless those V class are all that they say and can get me to move something on. I did just sell my Emerald X20(neck gave me hand pain, not sure why) and am thinking about a BI-WS1000 or the H-WS1000 as a larger CF offering. My Shorty is sitting in a stand in my very dry living room and the Blackbird is packed for the days travels and adventures.
I have found it takes me a year to decide if a guitar is going to stay or go, and then my wife usually tells me it stays anyway-great problem to have.
Now, too many guitars to spend your time watching YouTube, so get to playing and enjoy.
Welcome aboard here too,
Dave

Slow days at work don’t help with the EYV (excessive YouTube viewing), but I get your point.

Frettingflyer is right -  the best cure is to play them all and quit looking!
(don't feel too bad - we all suffer to some degree) ;)

Here is a pic of my Peavey T-60 now that I got it back from the shop.

I tore the whole guitar apart and did the following:

Cleaned/replaced/removed any rusted parts.
Replaced black plastic pickup rings with polished aluminum ones.
Replaced solid black pick guard with black pearl version shown.

The internal wiring was altered by the previous owner, so I had a shop re-wire the circuit.  I also had them install new strings and set the heights and tensions.  String replacement after tearing apart the saddle was a challenge for my skill level and lack of proper tools so I had it done at the shop as well.

Now it works as expected and has a good tone.

I really like the pickguard, nice color.
