GS Mini - Electronic?
« on: August 28, 2017, 02:10:50 PM »
I've ordered my second Taylor 😉, a Mini Koa.  It has the ES-B electronics.  When did they start installing this instead of the ES-2?  Was it a "upgrade" or a cost saving measure?

I am concerned that I'm receiving an "older" version with lesser quality pickups.

I am also curious what people think about this.

Seems like a downgrade to me. I think I'd take an extra tone knob than have a tuner.

I'm pretty sure the ES-2 is also a higher quality.

To the best of my knowledge, the vast majority of mini's come with the ES-B standard.  I believe a few upgraded/Deluxe Mini's have ES-2 installed.

As far as I know the GS-Mini KOA came Std with ES2 since it was released.  I think they are cost-cutting if they are putting in the ESB.  I'm glad I got the ES2.  I like it in my GS-Mini KOA and My 814CE Dlx.

I played a gs mini koa and a new gs mini spruce/layered walnut yesterday.

The Koa had the 3 normal Taylor knobs but the specs said it was the ES-T system.

The Walnut had the ES-B.

Plugged in an acoustic the Koa won. Now the Koa did have the three screw in the bridge. Does this mean their specs were wrong and it is in fact the ES-2?

Who knows. I liked the Hog the best but it was only acoustic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

***althoguh the new walnut didn't sound as "good" to my ear plugged in, the ES-B system was louder

The dealer advised me that they had started installing ES-B (B for Baby) in the GS Mini E's. They also advised that the ES-B had the same pickups as the ES-2.

Interesting wording used, though...

"incorporates Taylor’s Expression System® 2 piezo design elements"

And I think I prefer the three knobs to the tuner and two knobs
