Some pics of my new 714ce-SD!
« on: December 28, 2011, 02:39:24 PM »
So I've finally gotten around to taking a few photos of my new 714ce-SD.  When I was looking at this guitar, there didn't seem to be a lot of pictures out there, so I thought I'd post mine.  Although I've had it for a little over 2 weeks, it was actually my Christmas present, so I suppose posting the photos now is appropriate. ;D

I'm no pro photographer, and my little Canon point and shoot leaves a lot to be desired, but hopefully these will do.  The photo of the back is the only one that was taken indoors because I could never get a good photo of the back outdoors that wasn't entirely reflections.

One thing to note, is that I removed the original tortoise pickguard, and replaced it with a clear pickguard that I ordered from Taylor.  I just installed it the other day.  I think it looks much better now.  If you look closely, the clear pickguard is somewhat visible in the third photo.  Otherwise, it's essentially invisible in the other photos.

I think most folks already know this, but just in case... the 'SD' is a Guitar Center "exclusive" with a Sitka Spruce top (instead of the standard cedar) and diamond fretboard inlays.  It was a great middle ground between the 414ce Fall LTD and the 814ce.  Not quite as modest as the 414 but not as decked out as the 814.  The biggest difference is that it lacks the CV bracing, which for some might be a deal breaker.  Non the less, I'm absolutely loving it!!   ;D

byrd,

I'd say you have a winner there.   You have a very good looking guitar and that is definitely a nice Christmas gift :)

Congratulations!! That is a beauty. I've got a sitka top on my 714 LTD and just love the tone it produces. Enjoy!!

What a fine Christmas present - I'm envious! That guitar is the epitome of the term "understated elegance". I wish you many years of happiness with your new baby!

Wonderful looking guitar Byrd!  The grain on the back!! Beautiful!

I wish I could have taken a better picture of the back.  I'm quite pleased with it.  It's well book matched, and the grain makes a subtle 'V' that comes to a point dead center at the bottom edge of the guitar.   About 5 or so inches up from the bottom there's a subtle symmetrical flare that branches out from the center purfling in a second 'V' that is opposite to the 'V' made by the grain (It's tough to see in the photo, but you can kind of make it out).

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone!  It's definitely made for one of the best Christmas gifts in recent memory!  :D

Really nice guitar, Byrd! Also, thank you for explaining what makes up the "SD" model as I hadn't known about this before. Also, I noticed the nice green color of your rosette. You have yourself a real beauty there :)
