Tight Battery
« on: July 03, 2015, 01:41:37 AM »
Hi All

Use my 214 about once a month at an open mic/jam session into a desk and PA. Thought I should change the battery so I bought some
branded ones but when it came to fitting one it was a really tight fit into the battery compartment. So tight that I daren't push it right in as was afraid it wouldn't come back out. I compared length of old battery to new one and new was about 1 mm longer than old.
I contacted battery company who assured me that they had not changed their spec. They also very kindly sent me a voucher for some more batteries!! Will probably have to revert to supermarket own brand cheapies as they fit ok.
Anyone else had this problem? Thanks

...or simply buy a 12-pack of Duracells from Costco and be done with it (and leave your battery box unmolested ;) ).

Standard UK Duracells don't fit Edward, that's the problem.

Has anyone in Europe called Taylor to see which battery they recommend?

To be honest I`ve  had different size Duracells. Some fit, some don't.

Ahhh, UK...sorry I missed that, my apologies!  Interesting that Duracell would make different-spec bodies for Euro market as opposed to the USA, though ...so odd this 9v issue!

Since Taylor now has a second "home" in Europe, perhaps try calling their factory service center there and ask them what's the most commonly available battery to get (yeah, what Dennis said ;) ).  After all, they've got to deal with all the local Taylors and must certainly replace more than a few of their customers' batteries.

Sorry guys, no use calling Taylor Europe (Amsterdam). This problem is unsolvable unless Taylor adapts (enlarges) the size of their cartridge. The present cartridge is simply too tight (too short) for the larger 9V batteries. I found my own solution by cutting out the rear end of the cartridge. That works flawlessly and I noticed that Taylor (when I visited Taylor Amsterdam where they had just finished an instruction for dealers) had the same solution on the table. They should do something structural about it.
