Kinda feel like I'm playing "Guitar Twister"
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:47:55 PM »
Funny how some forums are so self-righteous.  If you say yuo own a different brand (as in my recent purchase of a Taylor in a Martin forum), they get a little twisted.  Kinda silly.  I feel like I have an appendage in each circle.  Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Fenders ... all of them have a place in my heart of being a "favorite"for a certain feel or reason, a sound or "mojo" that they hold.

Why not just enjoy playing the heck out the gutiar, the tactile and sensory experience of bringing that instrument to life!  But nnnnoooooooo, I have to love a certain "brand".  Jeez.  Groan.  Cough hack!

"It" is in the fingers any way, Martin people!  Not the gutiar.  Fingers, not the guitar.

End of rant.  Thank you.
You are only as good as the practice you put in.

Seems like lots of folks in this forum are multibrand owners and generally just love the old box no matter what brand.  Taylor holds a special place for some of us because of the way they have reached out and given us the opportunity to learn so much about the instruments we love.

I try to avoid the 'brand loyalty' arguments myself.  I think most folks around this forum are generally laid-back about the brands; we're all enthusiastic about Taylors, but I know there's a few Martin, etc. owners amongst us.  If it's a good-sounding guitar, and it 'speaks' to you, it was meant to be yours -- regardless of the name on the headstock...

I played a Martin Dreadnought in Spruce/Mahogany a while back, comparing it back-to-back to a Taylor 510; the sonic differences were nearly imperceptible to me, and I just preferred the styling of the Taylor myself.  But in the absence of a Taylor, I could very well have purchased the Martin.

For my own personal reasons, I have chosen to own only Taylors....they just do it for me. BUT, that being said, I respect all brands. What's right for one person may not be right for another. I truly think you need to find what's right for you and go for it. I'll never put someone down for what name is on their headstock. I hate it when they do it to me. Find it, love it, play it!

BD, I suspect rants like yours might be why this site exists. :)

As an all-Taylor owner, I can assure you that all your choices in guitars are welcomed here. I have owned many fine brands in the past. I just happen to prefer Taylor non-cutaway grand auditoriums at this time....
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

I know, another thing so cool about this forum... You can actually like another brand and not be dissed  or have to justify it. I really like Taylor's, they are beautiful and I love their tone. But I have found some other brands are a better fit for me physically.
