Oh Happy NGD !
« on: July 10, 2014, 01:17:13 PM »
I have been wishing that Taylor made a small bodied, solid wood guitar with 1 3/4" nut. It seems like a missed market for someone like me who wants to upgrade from my first guitar, the GSMini. So imagine my surprise when I learned that Taylor had produced a limited Parlor guitar for their 35th anniversary, and an internet search turned up a new one for sale at Midlothian Music in Chicago. John was great to deal with. He told me how he was at the factory when they were making these and was able to get one for his store's reserve. He shipped promptly and I received the guitar in perfect condition today. I think it is gorgeous and it plays like butter. The sound, truthfully, is very much like my GSMini RW-e, which has great tone and resonance. The bout dimensions are the same, but because the Parlor is a 12 fret, the body and scale length are longer. So that, along with the 1 3/4 nut width, makes for very good playability. Here are some quick cell phone pics.

Wow!

Is that Madagascar rosewood? Never seen a Taylor parlor guitar before. Love the overall looks of the guitar as well as the green heart abalone rosette. Congrats!

Yes, Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, Sitka top with Adirondack bracing, bone nut and saddle. Thanks! The rosette is just enough bling. There are no fret markers on the fretboard, just a discrete 35 at the 12th fret.

Very nice indeed. You should really enjoy that one! The wood is beautiful! Hey, I know you are trying to sell your GS mini, but with a guitar THAT nice, you may still want a guitar to take places where you might not want to take the parlor. The GS mini is good for that purpose. Just a thought.

Thanks, everyone! My first NGD to share with everyone here. TaylorGirl, I have been thinking the same thing about keeping the Mini. Especially for festivals and outdoor events.

Wow! I love that guitar! The slotted headstock and tuners are gorgeous, and the size with the 12th fret is outstanding.  I bet it produces a bunch of tone for a small guitar.  And Maddie to boost! You really made out!

Thanks for looking, everyone! I can't believe my luck--I am ordinarily NOT the person who finds something everyone else wants. After a day with this guitar, I can truly say it was meant to be mine. I am totally bonding with it. Thanks John at Midlothian for keeping it in storage for five years until I came around to guitar, after dulcimer and ukulele adventures.

Sweet guitar! It's always nice to find a hidden treasure now and then!  I had the same reaction about luck and destiny when I came across my Liberty Tree guitar -- NOS, ten years after it had been issued!  :)

Yes, definitely a unique duck!  And oddly enough, I remember playing one at a Taylor event some time ago.  I have no idea how many they made, but I recall the 35th logo in parlor size.  Very cool guit to have, to be sure!
