Sonicbaker:   We have always made the distinction between vacations (fun) and family visits (duty).  Two different animals entirely, and we do like our families.  Glad your GS Mini could help.  Ours is a mahogany top.  Had a spruce top GSM a couple of years ago and sold it off, but the wife fell for the mahogany tone.  I concur that the body woods make almost no tonal difference, being laminates, but the tops.....
having played several different sitka top minis (sapele, blackwood, rosewood & maple),
the blackwood one i tried was noticeably heavier than the others & the extra mass had a
definite dampening effect that did audibly affect the tone, but that's not to say all blackwood
veneer models will sound similar, or rosewood or maple veneer, or that there will be any reliable
consistency between the different models (maple brighter, rosewood more resonant, etc), but
the difference in weight, as well as the top, can be a factor to take into consideration, imho

if i'm reading this correctly & it isn't an error, one of these
'hog minis weighs up to 14 ounces less than the others

it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...
