NGD - 514e Eurospruce over Flamed Mahogany Fall Ltd.
« on: June 28, 2014, 01:56:45 PM »
I picked up a new Taylor and got rid of one.  This is the guitar that replaced my BTO.  These are my first photos, I will do some better ones later (the back is the shop photo ran out of light).

Will offer more information about tone, first impressions are almost always very positive and this one is no different.

What I can say is that the build, aesthetics, and general details are stunning on this one.  These were in my opinion some very special guitars that were offered in Fall of 2013.  The aesthetic package was picked by Andy Powers, and the specs include some nice bonuses like Euro Spruce, Adirondack bracing, and all wood appointments.

It is a 2013 514e Fall Limited with European Spruce over Flamed Mahogany.

Very nice. This reminds me of some of the 30th anniversary models they did. Enjoy!

Very beautiful guitar, congrats! And the boxwood inlays simply look awesome. Had a similar non-cutaway GA once (a 714 with optional engelmann top) and I must say that I actually prefer the sound of mahogany over rosewood. Please do tell us how European spruce compares with the other types of spruce tops once you get a chance to play it. Why did you let go of "Camille" btw?

Gorgeous!  Being a mahogany fan I must say that this one really made my eyes pop!

All good questions.  I let go of Camille for two reasons.  The first was that I felt like BTO was too much for my skill level but more important was I wanted a GA and knew I could put some money towards my daughters private school tuition.

The true bonus is I expected to get a spring or fall ltd 414 , and not a Fall 518e that has BTO specs.

Eurospruce top is amazing.  Headroom of Adi with sensitive touch of of cedar.  It is really an amazing top.  Is this guitar better than the BTO? It is not better or not as good just different a good way.  Wish I could have done both.

If anyone wants one of these Sam Ash has a new one on Ebay for a price that is stunning, and the woods looks as good as my example.

Certainly is a gorgeous Taylor. After you've had a chance to play it, please be sure to let us know your thoughts on it. :) Congratulations.

It is quite nice but you have a Cujo.  Those were special.

Love mine. You will too. Still can't believe getting a guitar that sounds and looks fantastic. Top it off with adi braces, Gotoh's and the ES2 for what I consider a bargain price.

I agree.  Wait for my updated photos after I have put a few special touches on it.

Gorgeous!!! I have a 2013 FLTD 516e and it's easily my favorite six-string. It "fixed" every "complaint" I had about my old engelmann-top 514ce.

I have only played a few engelmann topped guitars, but what I can say is the top on this guitar is very much like cedar and adirondack with a little less head room, but the nice light touch.

My engelmann-top 514ce was very warm and dark, but could get tubby on the low-end. Fantastic fingerstyle guitar, but for that. I agree with what you say about the LTD, except that obviously there are differences because I have a 516LTD. The main difference is the low-end and how much it rings out. This LTD series was fantastic. I also thought the figured sapele LTD's from a year ago were under-appreciated.
