Nice. With the beautiful striping on that top, I think I'd be inclined to leave it as is. But, it's your guitar and personal preference trumps whatever we might say.

As you have suggested, TaylorGirl, I have asked Taylor if it would be possible to get a rosewood pickguard, but unfortunately, I was told that the Rosewood pickguard is only available on their new 800 series 2014 and it is not available as a part  :'(
So now I am waiting to receive a red turtoise one  :)

It was worth a try. I have learned that it never hurts to ask. Good to hear they took care of you. Enjoy that beauty!

The guitar is beautiful - to me it looks more unique without the pickguard. And that ovangkol looks a lot more like rosewood than ovangkol! Again, congratulations on your new baby!

2013 456ce-FLTD's back and sides are actually made of rosewod, not ovangkol :)
And the guitar sounds very rosewodish  :)  :)  :)

I am now waiting to receive the pickguard,... once I have it I will make final decision on sticking
it on the guitar or not  :)

Beautiful guitar!  How about a clear pick guard?

I was surprised by the same thing when I received my 556e last year (no pick guard).  At first I was really nervous about it.  After playing it almost every day, I have come to realize that I don't need it.  I think it is cool that Taylor will send you one for free, if that is true.  Their customer service is top notch, so it certainly would not surprise at all.  I have grown quite fond of the look without one, so for now it will stay that way....

Congrats on the new guitar, I know you will LOVE it.  The Taylor 12's are so easy to play, and sound so full.  Excellent purchase!!!

Hello MJ,

I am still waiting to receive the pickguard,... Taylor told me they sent it to shop where I bought the guitar,... and I am yet to receive it from them,...

Yes, I 100% agree with you, 456CE-FLTD is an excellent 12-stringer, extremely easy to play and sounding really great  8)

The other day I have finally received the package,... it contained two red tortoise pick guards, different in size, one with 5" and another with 5.5" radius. I've been "playing" with them a bit by placing them on the guitar,... but to tell the truth, visually I like the guitar more without the pick guard,... so I have a feeling that for now I will keep the guitar without pick guard,... plus, after 3 or so weeks of heavily playing the guitar, I do not see a bit of deterioration of the lacquer on the guitar, ... possibly, if and when I will start noticing damage in the lacquer beyond the point of possible restoration with Virtuoso cleaner and polisher, I will stick picguard on the guitar  :)

I recently put on a clear static-cling pickgard on my k26.  Works well and doesn't appear it will affect it at all.  I guess time will tell.  You can always go that route if you like the clean look.   You can barely see the clear pickguard.  I was worried about pick scratches over time.

Yes, I have a clear pick guard on my spanish Juan Montes M135 Flamenca guitar,... but I guess I will keep the 456CE-FLTD without one for some more time at least  :)

Thanks for the update. See, wasn't it a blessing in disguise that the guitar came without the pickguard? Things worked out great for you. Play on!
