Hi! My name is Gary Duncan. I am a player, collector and trader and have been doing these things now since 1962. I was born and raised in Memphis, TN where there was a strong teenage band scene in the 60's. It wasn't unusual for bands with songs at the top of the rock 'n roll charts to be playing at a skating rink in one of the suburbs or at a teen nightclub. I remember one night when Eric Clapton and the Yardbirds were playing one Friday night at our local Skateland and they were the "opener" for the main attraction - The Beau Brummels.
I played rock and country professionally for a few years, got drafted, did the Vietnam thing, returned to college and have had a very successful career. I now tend to play more folk, bluegrass and blues. I do not like modern country at all and rock 'n roll as I know it has almost disappeared except on oldies radio stations.
I generally keep between 50 and 100 guitars (more in Summer less in Winter) and in the last several years have restructured my collection from mostly electrics, to now nearly all acoustics. About 45% are Taylors, about 45% are Martins and then there are a scattering of other brands. I buy several guitars each week during Summer when prices are lowest, and then sell off what I don't want to keep permanently in my collection during the pre-Xmas season.
