NGD K26ce
« on: June 15, 2014, 08:17:14 PM »
Well, yesterday I accomplished my mission.  My wife and I drove to Fuller's Guitar in Houston, we live in Dallas, for the Taylor Find Your Fit event.  We arrived just about 10:30.  I spent a little bit of time with the Taylor Product specialist, J.R. and he schooled me on body shapes and woods for a little while. I tried every shape and most wood combinations.  He had a custom order guitar with a cedar top that I really loved.  Amazing sound out of that guitar.

In the end I settled, using settled loosely, on a K26ce.   For me the body style just felt right, maybe because I am used to my 756ce.  I really enjoyed playing a 12-fret guitar and was surprised at the feel and sound out of it.  That me be on the wishlist one day.  The 800 series was very nice but the Koa just had a little extra that I liked.  The tone is well balanced and I really like how you can dig into it and control the high-end.

Now off to practice, I have committed myself to learning finger-style guitar.  I'll leave you with the pics.

This is the one that might make me break the "no more guitats" vow.  Awesome on many levels.  Since I play Hawaiian slack key, I am a big fan of koa instruments, and they don't come much nicer than this.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Very nice mdittenber.  Beautiful wood.  I bet sounds just as nice.  One of these days I will get me some Koa.

Looks like there's been a run on KOA lately. I just got a k26e a few weeks ago and really love it. Congrats and enjoy!

Absolutely stunning guitar! My personal experience has been that the koa guitars with the more "straight" backs like yours sound fuller than the ones with the crazy flame.

Thanks everyone.  The Koa series are very stunning looking.  I was most impressed by the sound.  Before getting to Fuller's I had anticipated getting one of the new 800 series guitars.  After playing quite a few the Koa series just had that little extra I was looking for.  Not to say the 800 series were bad by any stretch.   I just like the overall tone of the Koa bit better.  It helps your wife approves too.

Man that is beautiful. There is one in my local GS but I don't think it is quite as nice looking as yours.
